Concerning Student Uniforms

To ensure neatness, decency and a good impression to be socially acceptable for the sake of the
students and the university’s honor and dignity and to be in line with the education management of
Chiang Mai University, by virtue of Section 25 (3) and Section 70 of the Chiang Mai University Act B.E.
2551 and the meeting of the Chiang Mai University Council No. 1/2555 on January 21, 2555, these
Regulations concerning Chiang Mai University student uniforms is issued as follows:
Clause 1. These regulations shall be called “Chiang Mai University Regulations Concerning
Student Uniforms B.E. 2555.”
Clause 2. The regulations shale come into force upon their publication in the Government
Gazette.
Clause 3. In these regulations
“University” means Chiang Mai University.
“Faculty/College” means the academic section dealing with the teaching and learning of
students.
“President” means the President of Chiang Mai University.
“Student” means a student of Chiang Mai University.
“Uniform” means a Chiang Mai University student uniform.
Clause 4. The President of Chiang Mai University shall have the care and charge of these
regulations and in the cases of implementation problems, the President shall have the authority to make
the final decision.
Chapter 1
General Provisions

Clause 5. The student has the right to wear the student uniform as prescribed in these
regulations.

Clause 6. The students who attend class, and examination or has contact with a university unit
shall be dressed as follows:
(1) During the official days and hours, the student can wear a regular uniform except
when he has to undergo a training or workshop he can wear the workshop uniform of his
Faculty/College.
(2) During a holiday or outside the working hours the student should dress politely and
decently.
On Friday weekly, the student may put on a traditional Thai style or local style dress as
defined by the university.
Clause 7. The student who is assigned to participate in a ceremony, royal ceremony,
government ceremony or any other special ceremony should put on a special costume specified for
certain ceremonies or occasions.
Chapter 2
Regular Uniform

Undergraduate Student

Clause 8. A male student uniform consists of
(1) A solid white shirt with pointed collar-tips with the front opened from top down with
small white buttons. There is a pocket on the left breast with short (or long folded) sleeves. The shirt
length is long enough to be tucked neatly into the trousers.
(2) Standard long trousers in black, gray, brown or blue.
(3) A black leather belt with a silver buckle of a rectangle shape bearing the university
seal or that of the faculty or college.
(4) Low-cut shoes of a polite color and style.
(5) Socks of a polite color and style.
A freshman student has a purple necktie and a buckle bearing the university seal.

Clause 9. A female student uniform consists of
(1) A solid white blouse with the front opened from top to bottom with 4-5 silver metal
buttons bearing the university seal, the sleeves are short with the right body length for tucking neatly
inside the skirt.
(2) A university pin is attached to the left breast.
(3) A skirt in a polite style in black, gray, brown or blue of a knee length.
(4) A black leather-like belt with a triangle shaped buckle bearing the university seal or
that of the faculty/school.
(5) Low-cut shoes of a polite color and style.
A freshman girl student should wear white low-cut shoes and plain white socks with a
belt buckle bearing the university seal.

Graduate Students

Clause 10. Both male and female graduate students should dress politely and wear low-cut
shoes of a polite color and style.
Chapter 3
Special Occasion Dress

Clause 11. Special occasion clothing for a male student consists of:
(1) A solid white long-sleeved shirt.
(2) Long white trousers.
(3) Plain black low-cut shoes with shoestrings.
(4) Black socks.

(5) A black leather or leather-like belt with a silver buckle of a rectangle shape bearing
the university seal.
(6) A purple necktie.
(7) A university tie tack
Clause 12. Special occasion clothing for a female student consists of:
(1) A solid white blouse with pointed collar-tips, opening from top down with 4-5 silver
buttons bearing the university seal, short sleeved above the elbow with a moderate body length to be
tucked neatly into the skirt.
(2) A purple skirt of the A shape style of a knee length, slightly pleated in the back.
(3) A black leather or leather-like belt with a square silver buckle bearing the university
seal.
(4) A university pin on the left breast
(5) Black low-cut shoes.
Section 2
Graduate Student

Clause 13. The same special occasion uniforms are required for male and female graduate
students.
Chapter 4
Penalties
______________________
Clause 14. An intentional violation of the dress code in these regulations shall be penalized
according to the regulations on discipline.
Clause 15. Any person who makes use of the uniform illegally shall be punished according to the
penalty code of Chiang Mai University Act B.E. 2551.
