Hella Twin Trumpet Horns Thank you for choosing this quality Griot's product. We have included installation instructions for different wiring applications. Choose the installation which best fits your vehicle. Please read and understand the instructions before installing the Hella Twin Trumpet Horns. Materials Needed for Installation • 12 gauge automotive wire • Eye-ring type electrical connectors • Wire stripper/crimper tool • Electrical tape • Female Spade type electrical connectors • Butt type electrical connectors • 12 volt test light INSTALLATION FOR VEHICLES WITH EXISTING HORN(S) WITH ONE POSITIVE WIRE (Diagram A) Step 1:Disconnect the ground lead from your vehicle's battery before wiring. Step 2:Mount the Hella Twin Trumpet Horns on a stable mounting site inside engine bay. Step 3: Mount the relay to a solid location near the horns in an area protected from weather. Step 4:Disconnect the wire from the existing horn(s) and, using a female spade connector, attach it to the #86 terminal of the relay (switching circuit). If you have two horns, use only one of the wires and cap off the remaining unused wire. NOTE: It may be necessary to cut and remove the factory connector and replace it with a crimp-on style female spade connector. Step 5:Attach a female spade connector to one end of a piece of 12 gauge wire and attach it to the #85 terminal on the relay. On the other end of the wire attach a suitable eye-ring style connector and attach it to a ground. NOTE: You may use the mounting screw that secures the relay inside the engine compartment as a ground. Step 6:Attach a female spade connector to one end of a piece of 12 gauge wire and attach it to the #30 terminal on the relay (power supply circuit). Carefully run the wire to the battery making sure there are no sharp edges that will come in contact with the wire. Near the battery, install the provided in-line fuse holder. From the in-line fuse holder run 12 gauge wire to the battery and attach the wire to the positive post on the battery using a suitable eye-ring style connector. Step 7:Attach a female spade connector to one end of a piece of 12 gauge wire and attach it to the #87 terminal on the relay (power output circuit). Carefully run the wire to the horns making sure there are no sharp edges that will come in contact with the wire. At the end of the wire attach a butt connector. Then attach two 12 gauge wires to the other end of the butt connector. Install female spade connectors to the ends of those wires and attach a connector to each of the Hella Twin Trumpet Horns. NOTE: The horns are not labeled with a positive or negative terminal. It will not matter which terminal has a positive or negative wire installed to it as long as each horns has a designated 12 Volt wire and ground wire installed to it. Step 8:Attach a female spade connector to the ends of two separate pieces of 12 gauge wire and attach those connectors to the remaining terminals on each of the horns. Attach suitable eye-ring style connectors to the other ends of the wires and connect the wires to a suitable ground location. NOTE: You may use the mounting bolt that secures the horn inside the engine bay as a ground. Step 9:Reconnect the ground lead to your vehicle's battery. Step 10: Check your installation by honking the horn. INSTALLATION FOR VEHICLES WITH EXISTING HORN(S) WITH TWO WIRES (Diagram B) Step 1:Disconnect the ground lead from your vehicle's battery before wiring. Step 2:Mount the Hella Twin Trumpet Horns on a stable mounting site inside engine bay. Step 3: Mount the relay to a solid location near the horns in an area protected from weather. NOTE: It may be necessary to cut and remove the factory connector and replace it with a crimp-on style female spade connector. Step 5:Disconnect the remaining wire from the existing horn and, using a female spade connector, attach it to the #85 terminal on the relay. Step 10: Check your installation by honking the horns. INSTALLATION FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT A HORN OR OLDER THAN 1975 This system provides both power and ground wires to operate the horn. Step 1:Disconnect the ground lead from your vehicle's battery before wiring. Step 2:Mount the Hella Twin Trumpet Horns on a stable mounting site inside engine compartment (firewall, underside of the hood, etc). Step 3: Mount the relay to a solid location near the horns in an area protected from weather. Step 4:Find a suitable location for the horn button. If you are using the button that is on the steering wheel; a ground completion path is the most common type of installation. Step 5:Using 12 gauge wire, install a female spade connector on the end of the wire. Attach that wire to the #86 terminal of the relay (switching circuit). Run the wire to the horn button making sure there are no sharp edges that come in contact with the wire. At the opposite end of the wire install a suitable connector and attach it to the connector on the horn button. Step 6:To complete the switching circuit you must create a ground wire. Install a female spade connector to one end of a 12 gauge wire. Attach that connector to the #85 terminal of the relay. At the opposite end of the wire attach a suitable eye-ring style connector and attach it to a suitable ground location. NOTE: You may use the mounting screw that secures the relay inside the engine compartment as a ground.
