Emerson Network Power Avantellis Certification Program Expands
Commercial Availability of OpenSAF Middleware
First company to certify commercial and carrier-grade computing platforms is HP
Tempe, Ariz. [August 27, 2008] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson
(NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, today
announced its Avantellis™ Certification Program, the industry’s first program to precertify OpenSAF-based high availability (HA) middleware on widely deployed blade
servers and rack-mount servers from multiple vendors. Emerson’s commercial
distribution of the OpenSAF HA middleware, Avantellis Middleware, and this new
certification program enable companies to select a pre-certified hardware platform with
the assurance that it is supported by a commercial OpenSAF vendor, accelerating timeto-market and reducing development risk.
Emerson applies its extensive portfolio of test suites to fully certify the interoperability of
commercial hardware platforms and operating systems with its Avantellis HA
middleware. By pre-certifying the interoperability of these major components, original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are assured of rapid system integration cycles when
developing applications on OpenSAF’s full-featured, standards-based HA framework.
“We are proud that HP is the first company to validate its computing platforms through
Emerson’s Avantellis Certification program”, said Scott Ziffra, vice president and general
manager of software and services for the Embedded Computing business of Emerson
Network Power. “We are seeing growing customer requests for OpenSAF support on
various bladed and rack-mount servers and our new certification program will help them
deploy quickly and with confidence.”
“In order to reduce costs and to remain technologically competitive, telecom
infrastructure providers are moving from proprietary hardware and middleware to
standards-based platforms,” said Chuck Smith, vice president, BladeSystem business
development, HP. “By integrating OpenSAF on HP's carrier-grade servers using
Emerson's Avantellis solution, customers are able to reduce server costs and increase
reliability for their high-availability telecom infrastructure needs.”
