For installations requiring totally reliable power back-up, failsafe engine starting or bulk energy storage, the uniquely long life and low maintenance characteristics of AMCO Saft Ni-Cd batteries cannot be surpassed.

More than 100 years’ experience in developing pocket plate technology is built into every AMCO Saft Ni-Cd battery.

The wide range of low, medium and high discharge rates and capacity types makes accurate selection easy, based on discharge time and end of discharge voltage. Robust construction and generous electrolyte reserve enable the battery to withstand wide temperature fluctuations in stationary cycling behaviour over its 20+ years’ life.

Performance in temperature extremes

Nickel-cadmium plates are completely reliable, with no risk of thermal runaway or sudden death. Generally operating between temperatures of – 20°C to

+ 50°C, they can tolerate extremes of – 50°C to + 70°C for short periods.

Trouble-free long cycle life

The AMCO Saft Ni-Cd battery’s unique electrochemistry enables to regularly withstand any depth of discharge.

Following a deep discharge the battery is designed to recharge very quickly and economically, using standard single or dual-level charging equipment.

Easy storage and installation

Nickel-cadmium batteries are quick and easy to install as original equipment and may be stored in a discharged state under recommended conditions.

On installation a simple bolted connector enables the cells to be rapidly connected and commissioned.

Assured reliability

Ni-Cd is reliable in controlled city environments or harsh, unpredictable conditions in the world’s most remote and unattended areas.

The Ni-Cd battery’s construction makes it highly resistant to electrical abuse and transport over rough terrain, precluding risk of subsequent failure.

Quality built, quality tested for durability and performance

The AMCO Saft battery is manufactured in India at one of Saft’s internationally accredited ISO 9001 sites.

The AMCO Saft Ni-Cd battery meets, and exceeds, the requirements of the

IEC 60623 standard as well as Indian Standard IS 10918.

Solution for all kinds of industry

KPL , KPM , KPH offer different performance characteristics and cover a wide capacity range, enabling selection of an AMCO Saft Ni-Cd battery for any application.

KPL

KPL has the thickest plates and is designed for applications where the battery is required to provide: l

a reliable source of energy over long discharge periods l

a current that is relatively low in comparison with the total stored energy l

discharges are generally infrequent

KPL is typically used in power back-up and bulk energy storage applications.

KPM

KPM is designed for applications where the batteries are usually required to sustain: l

electrical loads between 30 minutes and 3 hours l

“mixed” loads which involve high and low discharge rates l

frequent or infrequent discharges

KPM type is typically used in power back-up applications.

KPH

KPH uses very thin plates and is designed for applications demanding: l

a relatively high current over short periods l

usually less than 1 hour duration l

frequent or infrequent discharges

KPH type is typically used in starting and power back-up applications.

Calculating your battery size

It is important to define the optimum battery size for your particular installation. Nickel-cadmium ranges offer many capacity steps to create the optimum battery for your application. AMCO Saft’s battery sizing software has been developed to make your battery selection easy. Our sales engineers have been specifically trained to fine-tune sizing of the batteries according to your specific conditions.

1. Electrode assembly

The active material is retained in pockets formed from perforated nickel-plated steel strips. This mechanically robust pocket plate construction promotes conductivity and robustness. The supporting structure of electrodes is made of nickel-plated steel and is inert to alkaline electrolyte. There is no corrosion and no risk of “Sudden death”.

2. Separator

AMCO Saft engineered grid ensures separation between electrodes of opposite polarity.

3. Electrolyte

The electrolyte used in KPL, KPM and KPH cells is aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide and lithium hydroxide and acts only as an ion transfer medium, delivering optimum performance without causing base material degradation. It is not necessary to change the electrolyte during the life of the cell. For extremely low temperatures a special high density electrolyte is available.

4. Terminals

Easy to bolt nickel-plated terminals made of steel are provided for both polarities.

5. Cell containers

AMCO Saft cells are available in polypropylene or stainless steel containers.

The polypropylene container can withstand high mechanical stresses, shocks, vibrations and extreme temperatures. It has excellent electrical insulation, is corrosion resistant and permits visible check of electrolyte level for ease of maintenance.

6. Venting system

The battery is fitted with a specially designed flame arresting flip top vent and does not produce corrosive vapours. This vent allows easy topping up operation when needed.

Minimum float charging current: 2 mA per Ah.

A higher voltage will reduce the charge duration and increase the efficiency of recharging but may increase water consumption.
