THE POSITION
The Denver Police Department Crime Laboratory is hiring for a Forensic Scientist I (Latent
Fingerprint Examiner) to be effective in early 2016.
The Denver Crime Laboratory strives to aid victims through excellence in criminal investigation.
In partnership with the rest of the Denver Police Department, the Crime Laboratory employs a
variety of civilians, to augment the investigation of criminal acts in order to make Denver a
safer place to live. The Denver Crime Laboratory is comprised of nine units, including the Crime Scene
Investigations Unit, the Forensic Chemistry Unit, the Trace Evidence Unit, the
Firearms/Toolmarks Unit, the Latent Print Unit, and the Photography Lab, the Forensic
Biology/DNA section, the Quality Assurance Unit and the Crime Scene Volunteer Unit.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position performs specific aspects of criminal casework on evidentiary materials, including
evaluation and preparation of evidence, Latent Fingerprint training/analysis, interpretation of
analytical results, preparation of case reports, active participation and commitment to
improving the laboratory ISO/IEC 17025 quality assurance/quality control program, and expert
testimony and support to District Attorneys.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physics, or a field
directly related to forensic science.
Experience: None
Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for
the minimum education requirements. Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience working in a forensic crime laboratory in
the examination, analysis and comparison of latent prints and chemical processing for the
presence of latent prints.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the AFIS/IAFIS systems, knowledge in the use of
computers, knowledge of the rules of evidence, and knowledge of crime scene evidence
identification, collection and preservation as it applies to latent fingerprint type evidence. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The City and County of Denver values leadership that influences

Finalist will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Denver
Police Department which includes criminal and employment history and polygraph examination. Applicants must be able to legally work within the United States at the time of employment. Classification Title: Forensic Scientist I
Compensation Range: $51,498 to 82,397

Testing: Scored Supplemental, Practical Exercise, Oral Interview
Background Check/Drug Testing: Candidates must pass a criminal background check, 10
year employment verification and education verification. Additional checks such as credit and
drug testing may be required.
Probationary Period: The successful candidate will be required to complete a minimum six
month probationary period (benefits will be active during this time) prior to attaining Career
Status with the City.
