PREREQUISITE: Spanish 202 & 212.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Advanced Conversation and Reading (3). Continue development of oral
communication and reading comprehension. Review of selected grammatical structures through use of
literary and cultural materials. Some writing will be adjunct to reading. Conducted in Spanish. May be
taken concurrently with Spanish 302. Not open to students with credit in Spanish 381.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION: Student must attend class. Regular attendance is expected of
every student. When unexcused absences exceed the number of hours that a class meets a week, the
instructor may drop the student from the class. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss anticipated
extensive absences with the instructor. You may miss 3 classes without penalty. This allows for
absences due to illness and emergencies. After that, however, your grade will be reduced by 2% for
every class missed.
2. HOMEWORK: Students are expected to come to class prepared to participate in oral and written
work based on assignments. Be prepared to turn in your homework upon teacher’s request. No late
assignments are accepted. Your tentative schedule indicates the topics from the textbook for each
week.
3. EXAMS: There will be several short quizzes, 2 exams and a final exam. There will be no make ups. No
exceptions. IMPORTANT: Not stepping out of the classroom during quizzes or exams.
4. SPEAKING ACTIVITIES: You will have numerous opportunities to practice your speaking skills during
discussions of assigned readings and other homework, interviews, surveys, small groups activities and
informal presentations(credit only).
5. ORAL PRESENTATION & COMPOSITIONS: You will prepare and deliver one oral presentation(graded)
towards the end of the semester. Topics and guidelines will be provided. You will also write 2
compositions. This will enable you to express your ideas in the context of themes chosen fro the
readings and materials. They should be submitted on the date specified, typed, double spaced, and
carefully edited.
6. ELECTRONIC DEVICES: “As a courtesy to the class and the instructor, please turn OFF all electronic
equipment (cellular phones, beepers, computers, etc.) before entering the classroom and put them
away where they can not be seen. Should a violation of this policy occur, you will be asked to leave.”
