La comunicación en la sociedad del conocimiento: desafíos para la universidad Palacio de Convenciones de La Habana, Cuba Del 19 al 22 de octubre de 2009 V CONFERENCIA DE ACADÉMICOS DE LA COMUNICACIÓN DE LAS AMÉRICAS "LA FORMACIÓN DE COMUNICADORES EN LAS AMÉRICAS" V CONFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION SCHOLARS OF THE AMERICAS "COMMUNICATION TRAINING ACROSS THE AMERICAS" Sponsored by FELAFACS (Federación Lationamericana de Facultades de Comunicación Social) and the NCA (National Communication Association) XIII Latin American Social Communication Schools Congress Date: Thursday, October 22nd 2009 Time: 17.00 -19.00 Venue: Room 6 (Palacio de Convenciones de La Habana, Cuba) A Note of Welcome Welcome to the V Conference of Communication scholars of the Americas, sponsored by the National Communication Association (NCA) and the Latin American Federation of Social Communication Schools (FELAFACS). The theme of this fifth conference is “Communication training across the Americas: a comparative approach". Since 1997, in México City, where the first conference was held, NCA and FELAFACS main goal has been to provide communication scholars from South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and North America an opportunity to share their teaching, research, and practice experiences in the different areas of the field of communication. As well, this is an opportunity to improve the North-South dialogue and to promote programs for collaborative teaching, research, and practice in the continent. The V Conference will offer a multi-dimensional symposium designed to give participants a greater understanding of the ideological, pedagogical, theoretical, and practical paradigms relevant to the communication training across the Americas. Our goal is to fortify professional relationships between Latin American and North American communication scholars. We would like to extend a special word of thanks to our participants from Argentina, Colombia, México, Peru and the United States, as this preconference would not have been possible without their contributions. We invite you to join us for the conference opening remarks; the two conference panels on “Communication training across the Americas: a comparative approach"; the dinner and discussion session and the business meeting, which will take place after the two panels. We have designed the structure and flow of the day to maximize opportunities for dialogue between panelists and participants. Finally, we would like to thank all of you who have made special efforts to participate in this conference, in the hope of continuing the mission of the first conference and fostering relationships between organizations and individuals within and across national boundaries. We appreciate your support in this endeavor, and we look forward to working with you to ensure the success of this conference. All the best!
