BSE (Breast Self Exam)



BSE helps familiarize you with the normal look and
feel of your breasts. This knowledge enables you to
identify any changes that may require immediate
follow up with your primary Physician or
Gynecologist.
It is recommended that a monthly BSE be done
immediately post your menses.
You can perform your BSE while lying down, standing
or sitting in front of a mirror or in the shower.
SEXUAL AWARENESS
KNOW YOUR BODY
There are 3 patterns to choose from for BSE
1.
The up and down method
2.
The circle/circular method
3.
The wedge method

Self Testicular Exam (TSE)




TSE is best done post a warm shower as this relaxes
the scrotal muscles.
Slowly roll each testicle between thumb and
forefinger applying slight pressure. Check for hard
painless lumps or any changes in color, contour,
texture and size.
Examine your epididymis for lumps. Located behind
each testicle.
Examine your vas (the sperm carrying duct that runs
up from the epididymis). Perform test on both
testicles.

(STI, STD)
Types

Infections/Diseases
Chlamydia:




can be acquired from having vaginal, anal (rectal) or oral sex
with someone who has Chlamydia.
Men have white or clear watery drip from the penis and
burning with urination. Women may have burning with
urination, milky, white or yellow discharge.
Symptoms may come and go usually starting one week to
three weeks post exposure to an infected individual. Some
individuals may not have any symptoms at all and are
unaware that they are infected yet they can still give
Chlamydia to anyone they have sex with.
If not treated it can lead to infertility, PID or also known as
pelvic inflammatory disease and damage to reproductive
organs.
Bacterial
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Gonorrhea:
 White, yellow or green drip from your penis,
vagina or anus. Burning or pain with
urination. Frequent urination. Women could
be asymptomatic.
 Symptoms may come and go and appear
two days to a few weeks after having sex
with someone who has gonorrhea.
 Complications include PID, infertility, heart
problems, blindness.
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Bacterial
Syphilis:
Has four stages:
Primary:
A painless sore on or around your penis, vagina, mouth or
anus usually starting one week to three months post
exposure with someone who has syphilis. Later the sore
disappears.
Secondary:
Body rash, hair loss, swollen glands and fever.
Latent:
No symptom
Tertiary:
Damage to the cardiovascular and neurological system
and various organs of the body.
SEXUALLY TRANSMITED
INFECTIONS/DISEASES
PRIMARY & SECONDARY SYPHILIS
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Parasitic
Scabies:
 Spread by skin to skin contact during sex.
Tiny red bumps appear anywhere on the
body armpits, buttocks, hands, around the
penis and vagina, where mites crawl under
skin and lay eggs.
 Intense itching especially at night. Skin
infection from scratching.
 Takes about 2-6 weeks post exposure for
symptoms to occur.
 Condoms are not effective.

INFECTIONS/DISEASES
SCABIES INFECTION
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Parasitic:
Crabs (pubic lice):
 Tiny bugs found in the hair around the penis,
vagina, underarm or face. Spread by skin to
skin contact, or sharing sheets, towels or
clothing.
 Seen as red brown dots or tiny white crab
eggs in the hairs or blue spots on the skin
where crabs have bitten.
Complications are similar to scabies.
 Condoms are not effective.
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Viral
Genital Warts:
 Over 40 types
 Small, fleshy, raised or flat bumps, cauliflower type
bumps can be located on the penis, anus, scrotum,
thighs, mouth, vagina and cervix. Bumps are usually
painless.
 May be seen a few weeks or months post exposure.
 Condoms are not effective if warts are outside of
area covered.
 Complications include cervical cancer, recurring
infections, HPV has no treatment but symptoms can
be controlled.
SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED
INFECTIONS/DISEASES
GENITAL WARTS ON A PENIS
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Viral:
Herpes:
 Small painful blisters around the penis, anus, vagina
or mouth visible two days to a few weeks post
exposure.
 HSV-1, HSV-2 and Herpes Zoster.
 Condoms not effective if sores outside of covered
area.
 Herpes can not be cured and can be passed on even
when sores are not present.
 Complications include recurring breakouts 3-4 times a
year, herpes encephalitis and meningitis.
SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED
INFECTIONS/DISEASES
FEMALE AND MALE GENITALIA WITH
HERPES INFECTION (HSV 2)
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Viral
HIV ( Human Immunodeficiency Virus):
 Transmission via blood, semen or vaginal fluid.
 Initial symptoms could be fever, fatigue, rash,
headache, lymph glands swelling, nausea, vomiting
and or night sweats.
 Complications include multi system failure,
opportunistic infections and death.
 Blood test identifies the antibodies that define the
HIV positive status of an individual. An individual
could be HIV + for a very long time before they
convert to an AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome) patient.
Sexually Transmitted
Infections/Diseases
Viral

Drugs Affect on Sexual
Conduct





When drugs and sex are mixed the result is an increase in
sexually transmitted diseases (STD), molestations, sexual
assaults, rape and unwanted pregnancies.
Drugs in general affect perception, reaction time, feelings,
mood etc.
Alcohol lowers your reserve and allows you to take risks
you would otherwise not have taken if you were not under
the influence.
Marijuana alters your reaction time and slows down your
perception of everything around you while giving you a
false feeling of calmness and relaxation.
Some drugs can be slipped into your drinks while you are
unaware e.g. Rohypnol, Ketamine and ecstasy.
These drugs are used either to subdue or sedate
persons to allow for sexual assaults, rape and
molestations.
