Lessons of an Outgoing Fraternity President
o What are Fraternities made out of?
 Made out of people - individual members are so important
 Humanize your chapter - be civil but stern (can bend not break)
 What members do we have the most problems with and how do we deal with them?
 Senior members and New members
o Incentives, appeal to them and what they like/want
"People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it"
o Tie your members into the messages of your Fraternities "whys"
 Why do we Recruit, Study, or even Community service
 If you don't have a reason why then many objects you want to reach will be
meaningless

Make it clear that each member took an oath to your Fraternity and it is for
their own benefit
Get your priorities straight, help other brothers, and appreciate your members.
Make sure you don't Burn yourself out.
"You don't always have to be Superman" Theme of the week, before dance marathon -everybody
Have Support systems (Chapter advisor, Greek advisor, Girlfriend, brothers or other Greek friends
Know your weaknesses and make sure your chapter members don't take anything on that exploits those
weaknesses
Failure Vs. negligence - If you are motivated and are willing to put in the work then Failure isn't a bad
then but if failure comes from negligence it is unacceptable
Utilize any failures to weight what needs to be changed and improved.
