III. Justification for Change
In 2009, the prerequisite for the course was changed from “MATH 3317 and
admission to teacher education” to the current form in order to give ECE majors
more flexibility in their scheduling by allowing them to take both MATH 3317 and
MATH3318 in the same semester. However, the change inadvertently allowed
students to take MATH3318 before completing MATH3317 or even before being
admitted to the teacher education program. Our preference has always been,
and still is, for students to complete MATH3317 before MATH3318. However, to
give ECE majors more flexibility, we agreed to allow some students to double up
these two courses. The proposed change will continue to allow such an option
without creating other difficulties.
