http://www.pierce.ctc.edu/staff/pkaslik/

Course Objectives: This course integrates numeracy, proportional reasoning, algebraic skills, and functional reasoning. Students will represent quantitative relationships in multiple ways in order to solve problems from a variety of authentic contexts. Linear and exponential functions, along with logarithms and radicals will be studied and applied. Modeling and interpreting quantitative data is emphasized.

Student Expectations: Students are expected to attend all classes and are responsible for all information presented. Students are responsible for their own learning. Learning is accomplished by in-class listening and participation, reading the text, doing the homework and thinking about the concepts until they make sense.

Appropriate behavior is expected. Chitchat disturbs people near you. Be respectful to others.

Please turn cell phones off, save text messages for after class.

Evaluation:

Exams (50%): Five unit exams will be given (1.1-1.7, 18.-2.3, 2.4-2.10,3,4). All exam scores will count toward your grade. No make-ups without prior arrangements.

Final Exam (20%): A cumulative final exam will be given.

Student Engagement (15%): Most classes will consist of individual or group activities from the book. Results of some activities will be submitted at the end of class.

Automaticity exercises will be done outside of class and submitted online. They must be completed by Friday, May 13.

Homework (15%): The homework is online at www.wamap.org

. Registration information is available on the Math 96 page of my website. There are 2 types of

WAMAP Homework.

Prep, ( Preparing for the Next Lesson) are due before class. After 2 incorrect answers, the problems regenerate if you click on the link “Try another similar question”.

The highest score from multiple attempts is kept in the gradebook.

HW (Homework) will be due approximately 2 days after the lesson was discussed in class. You get multiple tries to answer questions but a 10% penalty is applied to each incorrect answer after the second.

You were given 10 late passes for the quarter which extends your due date by 24 hours. Late passes cannot be used on Preps.

Grades:

End of quarter grades will be given based on the grade function G(P).

G(P) = 4.0 if P ≥ 95

0.1P – 5.5 if 65 ≤ P < 95

0.0 if P < 65

Where P is the percentage of possible points.

Incompletes are not given.
