Course Description and Prerequisites This two or four week elective is designed to give the student experience in the evaluation and management of common clinical problems seen in a Urology practice. First contact experience will be provided in both the outpatient and inpatient consulting setting. Two half days per week will be spent observing and participating in urologic procedures. Housing is not provided. No night call is required. Student will be exposed and participate in urologic diagnostic and therapeutic events to enable understanding of the indications and contraindications for diagnostic testing and surgical therapy. Attendance and Make-up Policies TAMHSC – COM student handbook states: Students who miss more than 20% of a 4th year elective for any reason (2 weekdays during a two-week rotation or 4 weekdays for 4 week rotation) will require a remediation plan. However because elective schedules often vary considerably from a standard academic schedule, and students are often requesting extended time off during the interview season, each elective director is encouraged to consider your own attendance and remediation policy. Other Pertinent Course Information Students are expected to be present for the various activities that will be noted by your faculty. Students are expected to be punctual for all of the various activities noted on the weekly schedule. Failure to adhere to the schedule will result in undue delays and inconveniences to patients, students and faculty. Dress Code - It is expected that students carry themselves in professional manner; this includes appropriate clothing while engaged in patient care. If you are to be in clinic with your staff physician or resident, please dress accordingly. If you are in the operating room, scrubs are acceptable. IX. Students will have the opportunity to observe care of athletes of all ages from youth to high school to the collegiate level, both on and off the field. Level 4 trauma center orthopedic night call scheduled on rotational basis with designated faculty.
