DONOR:

Pierce College’s International Experiences scholarship has been made possible by members of the community who believe strongly in the power of an informed world view, through first hand experiences and a culturally diverse and immersive educational experience. This scholarship provides assistance to a Pierce College student who is applying for a seat on the Study Tour Program

2016 to Seoul and Tokyo

Currently enrolled Pierce College student who is applying for a seat

on the Study Tour Program 2016 to Seoul and Tokyo

CRITERIA:

Good Scholastic Standing - Minimum 3.0 GPA

Financial Need

Enrolled in a minimum of 5 Credit Hours

SELECTION Applications will be reviewed by the International Education staff prior to final selection

PROCESS: by the Pierce College International Experiences Advisory Committee.

CONDITIONS:

Scholarships will be awarded for the Summer 2016 Study Tour

1. The successful applicant must write a thank you note to the donor prior to receiving the award. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will receive a letter with further

instructions.

2. The successful applicant must notify the Office of Financial

Aid, in writing, should she or he decide (a) not to use the scholarship or, (b) to withdraw from Pierce College for any reason.

3. If the successful applicant does not enroll in the necessary courses for the Study Tour, prior to the registration deadline, the scholarship will be forfeited.

To apply for the International Experiences Student Scholarship you MUST submit the following:

1. PERSONAL ESSAY (1-2 pages). The personal essay provides an opportunity for you to communicate something important about yourself.

This essay will help us better understand your need for the scholarship.

Compose and type and essay, which addresses the following question:

Why is developing a global perspective important to you? What do you hope to learn from this experience, and how will you use this experience for your future success? Also include a brief response that provides the following information: a) your academic goals; b) your financial circumstances and how the scholarship will assist you in achieving your educational goals; c) involvement in community service; and, d) current or previous involvement in diverse cultural experiences.

2. TRANSCRIPT. Attach an unofficial copy of your most recent college transcript.

3. REFERENCE LETTER. One letter of reference is required (please do

not submit more than one letter.) Possible authors include a counselor, advisor, instructor, or employer; someone who knows of your need. This letter should be provided from an individual NOT affiliated with the International Education Department.

5. If applying for $1500, please submit a Financial Hardship Statement.

This statement should outline the financial hardship the Study Tour places on you. Explain your financial situation and how the total lost income from the cost of the study tour will affect you.

 By signing below, I certify that the information submitted is true and accurate. I hereby give my written consent to Pierce College to release and discuss information regarding my academic status.

I understand that this scholarship award is contingent upon the successful completion of my coursework during the Study Tour, and the payment of the outstanding amount owed for the Study Tour.
