Dear Parents / Guardians,
Welcome to sixth grade at CMS, and welcome to the Tiger Pride Team! I am excited to have your child in
class this year! To introduce myself, my name is Mrs. Elizabeth Arvay. This is my 15th year teaching at North
Allegheny; I taught six years at IMS (Special Education) and eight years at CMS (Regular Education). Please
read and discuss this letter with your child to help ensure a successful year at CMS!
Textbook - Math Course 2

Students will receive a textbook entitled Math Course 2. This textbook will be used for homework, in
class assignments, and for studying. Students will be given information to be able to access the online
textbook.
Notetaking Guide Notes

Each student will be given Notetaking Guide Notes that need to be brought to class daily. The
Notetaking Guide Notes will be graded for completeness, accuracy, and neatness.
Spiral Notebook

Each student will be given a spiral notebook which is to be brought to class daily. In-class work and
homework will be completed in this notebook. Grades will be taken from this notebook.
Assignment Book

Students are required to have their assignment books daily. All assignments are written on the
homework whiteboard, and students are given ample time to record assignments in their assignment
notebooks. Please check this book daily for assignments. Assignments will also be posted on the
homework page of my website.
Calculator

A Texas Instruments “TI-30 II” (2 line model) is encouraged to be purchased for classroom and home
usage. This model is available for approximately $12-$15 (Target or Office Max).
Homework / Grading

Grades will be based on the following: homework, quizzes/tests, notebook, and Notetaking Guide
Notes. The following grading scale will be used:
90% - 100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
0% - 59% = E


Homework is intended to help a student review and retain information and concepts taught in class each
day. Homework will be assigned every night in Math class; it is expected to be completed.
If a student does not complete his/her homework they will not receive credit. Students are encouraged to
complete their work thoroughly and turn it in on time.
Extra Help / Tutoring

Students are encouraged to see Mrs. Arvay during a.m. homeroom or during activity period for extra help.
Mrs. Arvay is also able to work with students before school starts at 7:30 a.m. Students are to check the day
before and schedule with Mrs. Arvay making sure there are not any conflicts (i.e. 7:30 a.m. meetings).
