1C News Important dates for September September 1—Curriculum Night September 7—Labor Day Dear Parents: Welcome to first grade! This is going to be a great year as your child learns to read (or becomes a better reader), where he or she will create stories, discover different word sounds, recognize patterns, and all in all, grow tremendously as a person. This is an important transition for the students as some of them now stay at school all day (just like the big kids). Since the school day is longer he or she may need snack. If they would like they may bring a HEALTHY snack—suggestions: fresh fruit, carrots, crackers, pretzels, raisins, yogurt, granola bars, etc—no juices please. Please make sure the snack is prepared at home so that the snack time stays clean and worry-free (Ex. oranges should be pre- sliced/peeled). Everyday your child is bringing home his or her take-home folder. It should come back to school everyday also. Please check it for any notes, corrected work or letters from the office. Also everyday they will color how their day goes. Green— Good day; Yellow—Needed some reminders; Red—Hard day-Mr. Corbett will be contacting you. Please help me to teach your child responsibility by making sure they bring their folder to school every day with the behavior calendar inside of it. Also, please make sure your child either wears or brings gym shoes every day so that they can participate in gym. Homework in first grade consists mainly of reading, spelling and the occasional math homework. We will discuss more of this at Curriculum Night. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to let me know either through a note, a phone call to school (630-393-1787) or email at charles.corbett@cusd200.org . Thank you in advance for a great year! Mr. Corbett
