December 4, 2015 Dear Parents, This week, the students began preparing for our “Holidays Traditions around the World” unit that will begin next week. During the next two weeks, we will be “flying” to Italy, Mexico, Germany, Sweden, England, France, Israel, the Netherlands, and Japan, to learn about the holiday traditions that are celebrated in each country. This unit will incorporate Math, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies based on the traditions the students learn about in each new country. On Monday, the students made their passports and their boarding passes for our “flights” to other countries to learn about their holiday traditions. On Tuesday, the students made their December calendars with the new star words “to, do, an, in, on, am” for the month. On Wednesday, each child “packed” his/her own suitcase that he/she will take on our “airplane rides” to 8 different countries around the world. The students were busy drawing their clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, and even their favorite stuffed animals to “pack” in their luggage. On Thursday, each child decorated his/her luggage with stickers from each country that we will be visiting on our “Holiday Traditions around the World” unit. Today, each child made a Santa counting chart. Each day in December, your child can glue a new cotton ball on Santa’s beard to count the days in the month. You will find a bag of cotton balls for your child to use in his/her backpack today. In the Friday folder this week, you will find the December star word cards to add to your star word practice ring at home. Please make sure your child is dressed for the colder temperatures (winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves, boots, snow pants, etc). Our students go outside for 20-30 minutes after lunch for recess, and they will need boots and snow pants to play outside when we have snow on the ground. Thank you! On December 14th, the Kindergarten classes will be part of the Emerson Holiday Program presented at Wheaton North High School at 7:00pm. Students will need to arrive at Wheaton North at 6:45pm. All of our Kindergarten students have been practicing their songs in Music class, and we are looking forward to a great performance! Please return your child’s report card and signed envelope to school on Monday. The goal updates are yours to keep at home, but please return the report card to school. Thank you! ***Reminders*** December 5 – Emerson’s Pancake Breakfast December 14 – Emerson Holiday Program at Wheaton North High School – 6:45pm December 18 – Class Holiday Party – 2:15pm December 21 – January 3 – Winter Break Have a wonderful weekend!
