The Queen’s News
Dear Parents,
It was nice to see so many of you at Parent-Teacher Conferences!
Last night we had to write down a word we did not know. This morning we talked about how we found those words.
Some opened a dictionary, closed their eyes and pointed, then opened their eyes and there was their word! Some went
to a children’s dictionary website, some used a thesaurus! We will choose a word a day! Today’s word was
“oxymoron”.
I often ask the kids to do “extra homework.” You might have seen “set the table” in their assignment notebooks, or
something similar. My purpose in this “homework” is to bring an awareness of how they can help, or what needs to be
done.
Our landform maps look awesome! I am really impressed with the creativity and their interest in the project! Thank you
for contributing the salt dough!
In reading we read about Lou Gehrig. Did you know he did not miss a day of school from the time he started to seventh
grade? The selection we read showed us how determined he was and also how brave he was when he was dealing with
the disease ALS. The next story we read was a historical fiction piece about Amelia Earhardt and Eleanor Roosevelt. We
have had the pleasure of having Mrs. Giacolo, our reading specialist, come in to teach us lessons that will make us better
readers. Her lessons have been exciting and very helpful!
Math is all about multiplication right now. We finished our unit on Place Value and Addition/Subtraction. Be sure to
keep studying the math facts whether your child is taking the multiplication timed tests or the division.
