Mrs. McInnis’s Monday Memo Here’s what’s happening in our class the week of November 4th: Reading- This week we will focus on important details in fiction and nonfiction while reading shorter passages. Students will be starting a new project on a fiction chapter book of their choice. Language- This week in Writing Workshop we will be writing persuasive friendly letters. Social Studies- This week we will start our unit on Jamestown. Students will learn the reasons for English colonization, the reasons for their site choice, and the importance of the English Charters. Math-We will start multiplication by focusing on multiples up to 12 x 12. Students should memorize the times tables. A multiples chart will come home tomorrow in their yellow folder to assist with homework and reviewing the multiples. Multiplication and division timed tests will be given each week this grading period starting next Tuesday. Please have the students complete at least one session of Reflex Math each week at home. All students are now working on multiplication and division in Reflex. Reminders and important dates: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Federal Impact Aid cards will be sent home tomorrow. Please read the directions, fill out, sign, and return these on Friday. Please review the Reading Logs that are in the yellow folders. Make sure your student is choosing books for the remaining empty spaces on the log for the second grading period. Students should have a REAL dictionary (highly recommended) or dictionary.com available for some of the new word study homework choices that will start up again next week. We will be working on dictionary skills such as looking up definitions, guide words, syllables, and parts of speech. They do need the practice of looking these words up, so please do not just let them GUESS any of the information. Thank you to all of the parents who came and helped out at our Halloween Party! It was a lot of fun! American Education Week is in two weeks. Our Book Fair visit will be on Tuesday, November 17th. We will attend the Book Fair from 10:45-11:15. Our musical will be at 1:30 in the gym that day and then again that night at 7:00. Report Cards will come home next Wednesday, November 11th. ASAP classes begin tomorrow.
