To increase awareness and educate and the public and health professionals about lupus. To fund clinical basic scientific research on lupus. DEPARTMENT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Provide telephone counseling and referrals Provide education seminars and support group meetings Create and disseminate newsletter, literature, and membership information Provide programs to physicians and allied health professionals, ongoing and accurate media coverage and promote speakers’ bureau Increase membership through promoting special events, federal campaigns, and planned giving campaigns. No 7/17/13 INTERNSHIP INFORMATION (How might your organization use and improve a health education student’s skills and knowledge?): The program would be moderately structured with diversified activities that would reflect Foundation goals and objectives. The program would provide an opportunity to research, interpret, and present information about lupus. The program would provide an opportunity to work individually and collaboratively with team members. Intern would be held accountable for long-term assignments and deadlines. The program would provide an opportunity to enhance communication skills through interacting with public relations departments, businesses, and other professionals. The program would provide an opportunity for intern to attend health fairs and educate the general population about lupus and Lupus Mid-Atlantic. INTERN INFORMATION (What are the skills and qualities you seek in an intern?): Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point Ability to learn and research lupus implications and associated disorders Ability to assist with planning of fundraising events and seminars Ability to interpret and present medical information to lupus patients and their families. Intern must take initiative and think of efficient ways to perform projects. Intern must be organized.
