Dear Families, 2015-2016 School Year I want to take this time to welcome you to the Jefferson Early Childhood Center. My name is Cassi Williston and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to an exciting year working with you and your family. I would like to encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education. With your participation, your child will see the connection between home and school. It is Important for the family and school to work together as a team. I value your thoughts and concerns and together we will work to help your child reach their goals. Each week a class newsletter will be sent home highlighting the week’s events and impost school news as well as dates to remember. To help the district go Green, all families are encouraged to have the newsletters be sent home via email. If you do not have access to a computer or email we will send home a hard copy of the newsletter. Our curriculum emphasizes areas of interest that include, but are not limited to , circle time, dramatic play, sensory table, block area, computer skills, academics, social play, gross and fine motor skills, speech and language development as well as social emotional skills. Modifications will be made for each child to ensure that all are participating. Wei will also be addressing the student’s individual needs according to the written Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Our daily schedule is subject to change but in the past we have broken out day up as follows: Arrival: hang up coat and backpack, wash hands and move picture to ‘at school’ location. Circle Time: sing a greeting song, go over the daily schedule, check job chart, check weather etc. Large Group: engage in a lesson designed for the whole class, read a story and take part in a group activity. Small Group: the class will be spilt into two groups. Once group with work wither with Ms. Nicole (speech Pathologist) or the Occupational Therapist while the other group works with Ms. Cass. The children will work at each group at one point during the week. Gym: the class works on flowing directions, fitness and have safe fun. On days that are weather permitting, we will go outside for gym. Please be sure to dress your child accordingly. Snack: please send a non-peanut snack with your child each day. It works best if you have a lunch bag that can be used daily. The children will take turns passing out snacks and napkins, work on socializing while eating and appropriate table manners as well. Choice Time: children are informed of the open areas, they then find their picture and put it at the area of their choice. The children are allowed to explore multiple areas during choice time. Closing Activity: children return to the cube chairs for a daily recall session, sing a final good-bye song, say good bye to their friends and then prepare to go home. Ms. Nicole is our Speech and Language Pathologist. She is typically in our room on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist will be assigned at the start of the school year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 630.682.2474 or via email at cassi.williston@cusd200.org.
