Summer Study Abroad Program Director Application
Program Description
 The USG European Council administers seven summer study abroad programs. These
programs are located in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, St. Petersburg, Edinburgh, and
Waterford.
 USG faculty and staff members are encouraged to apply for any of these programs.
 Program Directors are not paid a salary by the European Council. Salary arrangements are
to be made directly between the program director and their home institution.
 Additional information for each program can be found on our website at ecstudyabroad.net.
General Information and Selection Criteria
 Please communicate with the program director for the location on which you’re interested in
serving as site director for further details. Depending on the size of the program and
other factors, some site directors teach no courses but have significant
administrative and student affairs responsibilities, while others teach one course. If
your chosen location requires teaching one course, please complete the application
form for teaching on your chosen program, listing only one course.
 Faculty or staff seeking to serve as site directors will be evaluated in terms of their
experiences or skills relevant to directing a program on-site.
 Site directors are appointed for a term of three years subject to satisfactory annual
evaluations. At the end of the term they may reapply for an additional three-year term.
Directors may continue to reapply providing they remain in good standing with EC guidelines
and receive satisfactory annual program evaluations. More information regarding the
appointment and responsibilities of directors is available in the EC Program Director
Guidelines.

IV. Approval Signatures of Applicant
"I understand that my participation as site director in a summer study abroad program is
dependent on enrollment of ten (10) students from my campus in the 2016 summer study
abroad program.
If I am accepted, I understand further that site directing in a summer study abroad program is an
intensive and comprehensive experience, involving faculty members with students in diverse
activities outside the classroom. Therefore, I understand that I will be obligated to be on call
during the whole program unless specifically released and to respond to student and faculty
problems and concerns as they arise. In addition I will organize and conduct orientations before
and during the program, accompany students on excursions, assist students and faculty in
planning independent travel, assist faculty with their class and teaching preparations, supervise
the program staff including student assistants, and collaborate with other program faculty and
students in scheduling and conducting joint activities.
I understand further that the demands on faculty, the group living arrangements, and the
program schedule generally do not accommodate dependent children, although there are
exceptions in some of the programs. Prospective faculty members should consult the
appropriate program director to determine whether children under 18 can be accommodated at
a particular site.
By signing below, I indicate that I have read and understood all of the above information."
