"How do traffic exhaust, global warming, school bus exhaust, and everyday pesticide use
effect your health and your children's health right here in Connecticut and what are being
done about it? Recent studies and recent legislation in these areas will be addressed by
two guest speakers at the Natural Resources Council of CT’s Annual Meeting.
Our speaker’s views will help us put into perspective the impact of polluted air on local
increases in asthma and other respiratory conditions, the impact of car exhaust generated
on our crowded highways and roads on global warming and health, and the invisible
threat of everyday pesticide use on our water quality and our health. The program will be
preceded by a brief meeting of the Board.
“Recent Legislative Successes Regarding Air Quality-Related Issues”, State
Representative Pat Widlitz, 98th General Assembly District, House Chair of the
Environment Committee, and member of the Education Committee and the Finance,
Revenue and Bonding Committee. Representative Widlitz will report on this Spring’s
legislative advances in the area of air quality-- the Clean Cars legislation and Climate
Change legislation-- and the outlook for the future.
"Humans As Indicators For Environmental Health in Connecticut", Nancy
Alderman. Ms. Alderman, the featured speaker, is President of Environment and Human
Health, Inc., a non-profit organization composed of nine doctors, public health
professionals and policy experts, dedicated to protecting human health from
environmental harms. She will address EHHI’s work on exposures from school bus diesel
exhaust to school children, asthma tracking among Connecticut students, pesticide uses in
