The University of Tennessee National Alumni Association OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD Procedures fective Date: 1967 evised Date: June 1994 BACKGROUND: Sponsored by the UT National Alumni Association on an annual basis. Award is presented at the annual UTNAA Board of Governors meeting in June. The award was established in 1967 and alternates among the colleges. AWARD: $2,000 stipend/2 awards for UT Health Science Center. Travel expenses for awardee to NAA annual Board of Governors meeting in June (transportation to be paid by the College in which the faculty member is appointed and hotel and evening banquet to be paid by NAA). Spouse travel is not covered by the University. During the campus Student Government Association Banquet in May, recipients are recognized by their respective SGA Presidents and presented with a certificate provided by the NAA. Press releases are requested by the Alumni Affairs office and prepared and mailed by University Relations. RECIPIENTS: One faculty member from each of two colleges (rotates among colleges). Selection criterion is outstanding teaching in a classroom and/or clinical setting. SELECTION PROCESS: Each March Alumni Affairs works with the two particular college student affairs officers to solicit nominations from its students. The Executive Committee of each college's Student Government Association reviews the nominations received, selects a first choice and alternate and submits its recommendations to the Chancellor. Through the Alumni Office, the Chancellor submits nominations from the two colleges to the National Alumni Association in April. Following NAA approval, a letter notifying both recipients is prepared for the Chancellor's signature by Alumni Affairs. The National Alumni Association sends a letter in May inviting recipients to attend the annual UTNAA Board of Governors meeting. The campus Alumni Affairs office sends a letter notifying recipients of the process for claiming reimbursement for travel expenses.
