GSBS Dean’s Report – Faculty Senate December 9, 2013 Two GSBS faculty members were inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers at UTMB. Dr. Mark Clark is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Medical Humanities and Dr. Jose Barral, Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at a luncheon at the San Luis Conference Center in October. Early recruitment of graduate students for the Presidential Scholars Program is ongoing with early recruitment dates in December and January planned. The Presidential Scholars Program is focused on recruiting high quality T32 eligible students to graduate programs at UTMB. The GSBS attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Nashville yielding over 100 contacts of potential applicants for our training programs. The Presidential Scholars Program, MD/PhD Combined Degree program, the Committee for Career Development and the GSO leadership groups combined for a workshop on professional etiquette. Mrs. Maryellen LeDuc, a former protocol officer for the US Ambassador to the United Nations conducted the workshop. GSBS Deans are meeting monthly with student groups from the different graduate programs to share information and hear student concerns regarding training and research issues.
