The Graduate Council met Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in 2007 Ullsvik Hall.

1. Approval of the minutes from the April 16, 2015 meeting.
A motion to approve the minutes was made by Barb Barnet, seconded by David Heimerdinger.
Motion passed.
2. Request for approved Continuing Education Graduate Faculty to teaching additional course

membership; a motion was made by Jill Clough and seconded by Caryn Stanley. After discussion Jill
Clough made a motion to approve David Dahlquist and Betsy Ralph-Tollefson for one year
provisional membership, seconded by Karen Stinson. Motion passed.

Heimerdinger. Motion passed.
5. Second Reading – Psychology 7040 – Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment –
Patricia Bromley
Course Description: This course is an overview of various types of substance and behavioral
addictions and resulting characteristics and behavior patterns of the addicted individual. Emphasis is
on etiology, assessment and evidence-based, multi-disciplinary treatment models and methods.
Pat Bromley presented and answered questions. Cheryl Banachowski-Fuller made a motion to
approve the course, seconded by Karen Stinson. Motion passed and course was approved.
6. Second Reading – ISCM 7710 – Supply Chain Customer Synchronization – David
Heimerdinger
Course Description: The course highlights the principles and concepts of Supply Chain Customer
Synchronization, and provides an overview of detailed procedures and techniques for the design,
implementation, and control of strategies to better align with key customers. This course will highlight
the importance of supply chain customer synchronization as organizational strategy, provide an
overview of specific customer synchronization strategies, and discuss challenges to synchronizing
with key customers.
Jason Woldt presented and answered questions. Caryn Stanley made a motion to approve the
course, seconded by Ron Jacobus. Motion passed and course was approved.
7. Second Reading – OCL 7210 – Business Analytics
AND change of course number to 7310 – Caryn Stanley
Course Description: Students will learn how to apply business analytics tools and techniques to
decision making for managers and leaders of organizational change. Business analytics is a process
of transforming data into actions through analysis and insights in the context of organizational
decision making and problem solving. This course provides students with the fundamental concepts
and tools needed to understand the emerging role of business analytics in organizations. Students
will learn how to apply basic business analytics tools in a spreadsheet environment, and how to
communicate with analytics professionals to effectively use and interpret analytic models and results
for making better business decisions. Students will complete business analytics problems using
Microsoft Excel and various Excel add- ins, and other specialized software that is bundled with the
textbook.
Caryn Stanley presented and answered questions. David Heimerdinger made a motion to approve
the course and changing the course number, seconded by Pat Bromley. Motion passed and course
was approved.
8. Second Reading – OCL 7610 – Current Topics in Healthcare – Caryn Stanley
Course Description: Current issues in healthcare are discussed, analyzed, and addressed as they
relate to change and change leadership. Course content will be modified and announced each time
the course is presented to best represent current healthcare industry trends and issues.
Caryn Stanley presented and answered questions. David Heimerdinger made a motion to approve
the course, seconded by Pat Bromley. Motion passed and course was approved.
9. Second Reading – DEL 7740 – Student Services in Virtual Education – Caryn Stanley for
Julie Hewitt
Course Description: This course examines the structure and administration of various student
services in the virtual environment, including advising, special accommodations, registrar functions,
library services, student clubs and campus events, and an online bookstore.
Caryn Stanley for Julie Hewitt presented and answered questions. Pat Bromley made a motion to
approve the course, seconded by David Heimerdinger. Motion passed and course was approved.
10. Permission to Develop – ISCM 7720 – Supply Chain Reverse Logistics – David
Heimerdinger
Course Description: The course highlights the principles and concepts of Reverse Logistics from a
supply chain perspective, and provides an overview of detailed procedures and techniques for the
design, implementation, and control of strategies to better align with supply chain partners and
customers. The topics covered in this course will be: returns policies, return optimization, ecommerce collaboration, product recovery/ recycling, reverse logistics trends, and reverse logistics
best practices.
After discussion Caryn Stanley made a motion to approve development, seconded by Barb Barnet.
Motion passed.
11. New MS: Computer Science program – Qi Yang
MS Computer Science program\MSCS Planning.pdf
Qi discussed the redirection of the Computer Science program from the attached document. The
proposed date of implementation is Fall 2016.Cheryl Banachowski-Fuller made a motion to approve
the MS: Computer Science program contingency on being approved though the UABC council and
request of a second reading, Barb Barnet seconded the motion. The motion passed with 8 yes votes,
1 no vote and 2 that obtained.
12. Faculty Credentials – Dawn Drake
Dawn discussed that the HLC is looking at how UW-P is checking the qualifications of the faculty that
is hired. Graduate Council has its own policy on faculty qualifications.
13. What are some examples of hiring exceptions you make based on non-degree or
professional credentials, work experience, and subject matter expertise? – Bill Haskins
The discussion continued from item #12. A minimum qualification of faculty was also discussed.
