January 22, 2003 Notetaker: Connie Tran Defne the following words and describe how they differ. Information, Data, Belief, Faith, Opinion, Knowledge, Wisdom. To sum up Information: facts?; perceivable; learned, not born with. To sum up data: deals with numbers, recordable, unprocessed; data essentially turns in to information. Another view which is possible: data is an analysis of information. *Both information and beliefs are closesly related. To sum up belief: it is something you THINK is true; what you peceive from information; formed on one's own from processed information; an interpretation. To sum up Faith: There are different levels; it is a trust in something one cannot prove; hope; feeling-oriented belief; manifestation of beliefs; unfaltering belief. To sum up Opinion: large discusstion over the process of when information becomes an opinion or a belief and then in to faith. An opinion is argueably an expression of faith. Knowledge and Wisdom were not discussed because of time restraints.
