Business Interface
The business interface of Current ITS will be one of the most important user interfaces.
The main goal will be to make it easy for business owners to purchase and monitor their
advertisement campaigns, which will help to ensure business participation. The design will be a
focus on balancing the depth of information available versus the simplicity of understanding all
of the data.
The primary feature, starting an advertisement campaign, will consist of three steps.
The first of these will be creating the advertisement itself, which will be done by either
uploading a pre-created banner image (.jpg, .png, and .gif formats accepted) or by simply using
a plain text field to input the desired display message. The next step is choosing the desired
payment plan in which a customer can choose how many impressions he would like for the
given advertisement, which will display the price based on Cost per Impression (CPM). The final
step will be to pay for the selected plan, which will be handled through an external payment
processor called PayPal. In the prototype, the interface will use PayPal’s sandbox feature to
generate fake payments, and then it will be upgraded to full function for the real world
product. Using PayPal will ensure that customers are able to easily purchase the
advertisements, either by using a Credit Card, Bank Account, or PayPal Account, while saving
development time for best practice security and verification requirements.
The second main feature of the business interface will be a series of reports that the
business owner can view in real-time throughout the day. The most important report will be
the advertising report, which will give them live feedback of any already purchased advertising

campaigns showing how many views and clicks their ads get on a time scaled graph.
Additionally, information will be displayed about the closest stop to the owner’s business. This
will allow him to keep an eye on trends, such as the time of day when departures and arrivals
peak at their highest. Finally, the interface will also report any relevant alerts sent out by
Hampton Roads Transit which will help to inform the business owner of any potential problems
such as service delays which could directly affect potential customers.
