Elfida P. Chavez SIT Minutes October 14, 2015 Parent Conference Night: Thursday, October 22 (majority decision) Student Recognitions/Incentives: Rosemary Yates -A/B Honor Roll students for the 1st 9 weeks will be invited to a “Banana Split” Honor Roll Party. Like in the past, students may bring a banana from home, ice cream and toppings will be provided by school. (Date to be announced later). -“Lunch on Stage”- This will be an incentive for students with perfect attendance for the entire 9 weeks. Tables will be set up on stage with balloons and students will eat pizza on stage if they had perfect attendance per 9 weeks. -Popsicles- Students will receive popsicles for 100% cafeteria reports. Students who do not participate in cleaning, will not receive popsicle. Fall Benchmarks: Rosemary Yates -Benchmark testing for grades 3-5 will be held the 2nd week of November to allow teachers more time for instruction. Specific dates for subjects will be decided and teachers will be informed as soon as we receive more information, regarding length of test, scanning deadline, and other factors. I-Station After-School: Rosemary Yates -As to not overwhelm first graders with extending their day for IStation, this year we will only offer I-station after school for 2nd grade ONLY. In order to have allow more students to participate, a schedule will be set: one group will stay Mondays and Wednesdays, the other Tuesdays and Thursdays. -Academic needs must be prioritized; therefore, if any students that need I-Station after school are in clubs, they will have to be removed from the club. -We are hoping to begin the week before Thanksgiving (Nov.1619). P.E. Changes: Rosemary Yates -P.E. changes will be made to a.m. classes only in order to not affect lunch schedules. Effective Mon. Oct. 19, A.M. P.E. will no longer be staggered, classes are scheduled back to back. Here is the new schedule: Kinder 8:00-8:45 1st 8:45-9:30 2nd 9:30-10:15 3rd 10:15-11:00 **Because coaches will be receiving classes back to back, it is important that teachers pick up their class on time and NEVER be late. We need to ensure that no class is unsupervised at any time. We need to be very diligent and conscientious of time. Admin. Has also asked coaches to radio them if teachers are not on time. Monitors: Rosemary Yates & Sara Schwantner - There is a concern that teachers are not in their classrooms and ready to receive their class after lunch. Monitors have to leave immediately to cover their next class and students must not be left unsupervised in the hallway. Teachers, please be sure to be in your classrooms after lunch to receive your class. Lunch Clean-Up- Monitors have been doing a lot of the cleaning up, but their job is to monitor the students. -Each teacher is being asked to designate one Table cleaner and one Floor cleaner each day. Everyday, students will be rotated and it needs to be consistent so that students know who is doing what job. The cleaners for the day will be wearing a lanyard with their designated job (Table/Floor) and students are to turn in the lanyard to their monitor before leaving outside. -Mrs. Quezada brought up that she has a student in her class whose parents are adamant that their child not clean up table. If this is the case, students need to be instructed to clean up their area and they will not participate in the incentive of receiving a popsicle, as they are not participating in the clean-up. Bringing back Red/Green Cup: Monitors will be given deliberate instructions NOT to keep all children until everyone is done eating. This was causing for students to only have 5-10 minutes to play after eating. Monitors will be instructed that when MOST students are done, to turn the cup to green, and students who wish to stay behind or need more time may do so. *1st grade brought up that at times, cafeteria staff is not ready to serve kids; admin. Is aware and will work closely with cafeteria staff to improve the issue. *To minimize waiting times in cafeteria, teachers are allowed to send a student to pick up lunch cards before and pass them out in class so that they are ready as soon as they walk into cafeteria. *Kinder brought up that all classes go at the same time and this takes too long for all classes to be served; admin aware and is working on solution. *Teachers, please remind students to listen to lunch servings during morning announcements. Students are now being asked to make their own choices if they do NOT want everything, but this is taking too long. Students may choose everything, or take fruit instead of vegetable. Admin. has been explaining this during morning announcements so please help by explaining to your students. 3, 6, 9 Week Assessments for 3-5th: Rosemary and Sara -Rosemary has decided that in waiting for district checkpoints, we are not following the backwards design that is intended for during planning days. -Because we are a TIER 1 campus, admin. has decided that every grade level will CREATE their own assessments -Grade levels will be consistently planning; if time permits, lower grades will also receive time to create their assessments. -3rd Grade- Math and Reading must include 3, 6, 9 assessments; Science and Writing, 1 per 9 weeks in Eduphoria. 4th grade- Plan for Reading, Math, Writing, and Science for 3, 6, 9. Because of 5th grade Science STAAR, checkpoints should include Science. *All grade levels-On the next planning day (3rd 9wks), at least one Social Studies test per 9 wks must be entered into Eduphoria. Fall Intersession 2016: Rosemary Yates -Any teacher who wants to teach or feels a need to teach during the break will be allowed to teach; beginning next year it will not be limited to only certain teachers. Spring Tutoring, Saturday School, and Intersession: Rosemary Yates -Before we leave for the December break, grade levels need to decide on tutoring days and Saturdays. Please remember NOT to schedule any Saturdays right before the test. -Also, for Saturdays, consider which subjects will be covered; it was also suggested to consider doing rotations within grade level in which each teacher focuses on an SE and classes rotate after an hour. -Please plan these dates with enough time; consider sending permission slips for tutoring prior to the break. T-Shirt Sale- Rosemary and Sara -The sale is to benefit the Teacher fund -$$8 per shirt (Rosemary wore on Fri. 10/16) -Little stuffed moose will also be sold soon. -Generation TX- week of Oct.19-23; -Red Ribbon Week – Oct. 26-30 *Suzan has sent out schedule of activities for both weeks. Safety Update: Sara Schwantner -Mrs. Schwantner discussed amendments to the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) to reflect changes in members of the Safety Team. -Nurse Norma will be getting trained to be a “trainer of trainers” in CPR. The goals is that all members of the Safety Team are trained, as well as at least one, preferably two teachers per hallway be trained. -There have also been changes in the stations; please continue to provide feedback to Mrs. Schwantner after drills in order to make any changes, if needed. -Please lookout for reminder e-mails from Mrs. Schwantner regarding emergency procedures. -Teachers in ALL grade levels, continue to remind your students to NOT open any door for ANYONE at ANY time. At a district meeting, it was brought up that at a particular campus, a student was offered candy and the student opened the door. It took 45 minutes for intruder to be stopped by someone. So please, continuously remind students not to open the door!!! -It was also suggested to consider reviewing drills briefly, 5 minutes during your Olweus lesson to ensure that students understand the drills and their importance. EPAC Update: Gaby Barraza -Olweus needs to be implemented weekly. -Analyze that resources being used for instruction are being used adequately and are aligned to the SE. -TWITTER is ENCOURAGED but not MANDATORY. Parents are checking so the use to share wonderful news is being encouraged. **If you do have a Twitter account, please follow Rosemary! ** -Superintendent is stressing that teachers update webpages. He does randomly visit webpages. -Attendance needs to be closely monitored and documented. -Campus Improvement Plan is available on the website. -Sharing table-district is still deciding whether to bring that back. -No personal printers are allowed on campus! Framing the Lesson: Rosemary Yates -We will continue reviewing Framing the Lesson section of the Fundamental Five on Early Release Oct. 28. Family Night: December 10th -Since we will only host 2 per year, one per semester, every member of grade level must participate in one (half and half). -Holiday themed -All content areas will be covered; each grade level representative needs to a different activity/subject; try to make it as hands-on as possible. STAAR Reports 2015: Sara Schwantner -New reports including Math scores with new standards have arrived. Since the reports are still grouped by last year’s teachers, each grade level will get together during a grade-level to separate student reports and each teacher will file in their current students’ CUM folders. Open Forum: Rosemary Yates -During intersession, custodians were asked to make daily “restroom sweeps” at 9 and 1 to check that student and teacher restrooms have supplies. Please let admin. Know if bathrooms continue running short on supplies. -2nd grade asked if all classes still had lunch at the same time, as lines were too long. Rosemary answered that this problem should be fixed with new P.E. schedule. -4th grade asked if Oct. 30th is an allowable treat day; Rosemary will ask and confirm.
