use words and images to create the illusion that their products will fulfill our deepest desires.”
2b. ID the parts of “Sorcerers of Desire” (introduction, discussion, and conclusion) and describe
what each achieves.
Introduction: The introduction (Paragraph 1) serves to interest the reader in what the author has
to say. In the case of this introduction, the author uses the lure of the unknown and secret to
capture the reader's attention. The author draws an interesting analogy.
Discussion: Paragraphs two through five expound upon the idea presented in the introduction namely how advertisers create pleasing, almost magical, images to create desire for their
products (freedom, social tradition, acceptance).
Conclusion: The author creates a sense of continuity and closure by reflecting back on the
introduction and his major points in a concise manner.
