Harold Zarate Diaz Dr. Silva ENG 101 12-7-07 Final Exam Dear Miguel: I am aware of the relationship you have had with Juan for 5 years and from what I have observed, you have a good and mature relationship with Juan. I heard that because you have been involved with him many years, you are thinking about marrying Juan. Every person in the United States has the right to equality and privacy. As a result, I think it would be good that you take this step toward matrimony. The reasons for the same-sex marriage to be allowed are the following: certainly mutual love and care are to be encouraged whenever possible, possibility for children without parents to be adopted. As long as love exists, same-sex shouldn’t be banned. The reasons is that certain aspects of our lives should not be controlled and this includes who we choose to fall in love with and marry, it is the government job to provide us with security and protection, but not interfere in our relationship. Thus, as there is love between you and Juan, you should continue with legalization of your relationship through marriage, government should allow this legal union instead of putting restrictions to it. The argument that marriage is for procreation is not valid based on the kinds of marriages society does allow. If procreation is the priority, state should prohibit marriage in which one or both partners are sterile or aged couples, and that is not the case. As a result of this, your marriage may present a possibility for children without parents to be adopted by you. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services there is a lack of adopting homes for children, it estimates that as many as 127,000 children need adoptive families and only 50,000 children were adopted in 2000. In this way, you and Juan could give a home to those children without family. Every person in the United States has the right to equality and privacy and you two are not the exception. According to Susan Block “some left-leaning critics deplore samesex marriage as assimilation, not liberation.”(640) Gay people cannot be denied the right to marry the person of their choice. According to the Fourteen Amendment to the United States Constitution, “No state shall deny to any person within its prediction the equal protection of the laws,” and the equal protection clause includes the proposition that “all men are created equal.” Those are human rights that are absolute, not transferable to another power. To conclude you should marriage Juan, because you have been involved with him many years and you have a mature relationship, you should continue with the legalization of your relationship, your marriage many represent a possibility for children without parents to be adopted by you, and every person in the United States has the right to equality and privacy and you two are not the exception. Sincerely, Harold
