The Value of Computers
Dear Dr. Sterling:
I come from Colombia and I went to school eight years ago. It is hard to star
allover again knowing that I come from a very difficult culture and my native language is
Spanish but for my experiences I could say that it is always good to learn something new
and to share with different people and cultures and to share with different people and
cultures.
I was talking about cultures because I want to make an emphasis in the value of
the technology and most important: the computers which day after day give us the
opportunity to be faster in question of research, self-learning, save time, communication
and much more advantages around the world.. It is good to see how time to time every
college has been trying to improve their classes in a computer-based system because it is
a didactic form of education, and a good key for teachers and alumns to communicate
during the time when there are not presence classes.
If we talk about computers I could say that I’ve seen them everywhere: Banks,
Supermarkets, Offices, Classrooms, Stores, bars, and every place where a transaction has
to be made or where a letter has to be written and moreover when you really need a
record of a purchase or transaction. It is very exiting to remember the firs day I used a
computer and that was long time ago maybe ten or eleven if it is not more than that and it
was a great thing to happen to every classmate because at that time schools and colleges
in my country where just starting to experiment the difference between a regular class
and a based-computer system class. Until today now I live in New York I still
communicating with my ex-classmates by computer and I learn that they are everywhere
in my school, my college, allover the city and the country and that is the main reason why
it is so easy to see my family and friend being so far from home. I don’t have to write
letters anymore and it seems that I am closer to them.
The computer in my opinion is one of the greatest inventions of all the time and
have a great value in our society because it has improve the quality of attention and time
when years ago everything was so slow and complicated to do, and if we talk about the
other great advantage of computers we cant leave aside the internet from where I surf
and go to the farest place in the world and I come back to my apartment right whenever I
want. And what about paying my bills online I don’t spend much of my time running
around in a rush trying to do my things that I can do now from my computer.
In short, computers are a magic ingredient in our world which is a fast one and we
should keep in mind that if it was not for this great piece of invention many more things
would not be done by now. Computers are a great part of the evolution of society.
