Chapter 5—Net Savvy Assignment
I. Harley Owners Group (H.O.G)
Harley Davidson Company makes efforts in maintaining customer loyalty through its programs by having
different types of memberships to fit the customers’ needs. These kinds of memberships are full,
associate, life or even the renewal of a membership. The company tries to give customers opportunities
and benefits for various reasons such as events, road trips, and the protection if things don’t go as
planned, etc. These measures might be effective in creating value for members because customers pay a
great deal on these motorcycles and by giving value; the company provides them with benefits.
II. Planet Feedback
The types of feedback that customers can provide in the Planet Feedback site could consist of simple
things such as certain beverages, food, banks or even about companies. An example of feedback is
about Ford Company, where a customer was on a camping trip and had all four windows down.
However, when he tried to put the windows back up, only the driver’s window went back up and the
other three windows stayed down. Another feedback about Ford is the false advertisement of pricing
and sales of cars. It was a customer that was trying to find a car with a good deal, instead of the price
that Ford advertised on the paper, they would lie about the price and say “it’s only employee pricing.”
From my observations about the comments of Ford, it’s about a 1:10 ratio of positive to negative
comments from customers. The effect these comments might have on customer perceptions of Ford is
really high. Ford might be a well-known American car company, but with the customers comments
about their service, pricing and sales can bring their reputation downhill.
Chapter 6—Net Savvy Assignment
I. North American Industry Classification System
I would use the NAICS to assess the number of potential suppliers for tires by classifying certain data and
statistics of how many tire companies may be legitimate. However, using the NAICS would be risky
because the parts could be used or new and the sellers aren’t liable for the products sold. The NAICS
classification code for tires is 326211.
II. Levi Strauss & Co.
When clicking the link “where to buy,” you’d be able to see which retailing stores carry Levi’s products.
When clicking onto the retailer’s web link, it directs you to the retailer’s homepage. The type of linkage
benefits both the retailer and Levi’s by being able to find Levi’s products in other clothing stores. It’s
more convenient and easier for customers to find Levi’s in other stores if a certain location doesn’t have
the original store itself. When seeking a specific product: women’s, petite, boot cut jeans; the site
provides a brief yet short information about the product and what kind of denim the jeans is made of.
Chapter 7—Net Savvy Assignment
I. Massachusetts Export Center
The types of services that this site provides for business are export counseling and technical assistance,
international market research and assessment, international business development assistance, export
growth initiative, export training programs and export publications. The state of Massachusetts exports
mostly to countries like Mexico, Canada, and China. In addition, Massachusetts also exports to other
countries in Europe and Asia. None of the countries surprise me because these countries are mostly
where the United States gets its imports as well.
II. McDonalds
The three sites that are non-Western countries that I clicked were Japan, China and Australia. These
sites are different from the U.S. because they have to accommodate their culture of each country. In
Japan, they serve hot dogs and green tea McFlurries. In China, they sell corn, blueberry pies, and fried
chicken. Lastly, in Australia they sell deluxe fish sandwiches, lean meat sandwiches and English muffins.
These different products in other countries are not typically sold in the McDonalds in the U.S. The
promotional elements that are different from the U.S. is that it’s in another language and the products
that might have already came out here might of first came out in other countries.
