SSP101 Jason Chester Professor Fitch 5/28/09 Political Experience Today’s society is dream, a dream that has now become a nightmare. In the vast growing society that we live in, it is difficult to understand that in a time of major advancements and over achievements. The people around the world still practice some of the most barbaric and uncivilized behaviors towards each other. The idea of power where people can control others by their influence whether it be because of wealth or just strength in numbers is understandable. What isn’t understandable is how they can live everyday and sleep well at night knowing their actions hurt the lives of many. The rulers of foreign nations that sit well-fed and well rested watch their people starve and die of diseases and blame other nations. They sit back and let their people have civil wars over the silliest of misunderstandings while all the natural resources are being extracted around the world. The poor people kill each other in a strong belief in their morals while the wealthy have none; they enjoy the fruits of other’s labor. Our American system is pretty much the same but along time ago they decided to sell us a lie. Let us believe we can get further when they know there is a glass ceiling that is impermeable to everyone unless granted access by them. In an attempt to understand the role of our government and the individualistic ideas of politicians, I will attend a city council meeting, a Borough President’s Inauguration, a community board meeting, and a criminal court. I see hope for the future. If the right people get into power, and the people themselves understand it is up to all of us to work together for the better.
