Introduction (1/2) • MBS zone is a group of base stations transmitting the same MBS data simultaneously • MBS data streams are not dedicated to the specific MS – An MS that receives feedback-free MBS data could enter the idle state while periodically receiving MBS data streams. • For example, broadcast TV is one of the feedback-free MBS applications Introduction (2/2) • For an MS that receives only feedback-free MBS data streams, and migrates to a BS in another MBS zone: – In 16e, the MS is expected to register to that BS and to acquire a new CID and SA for reception of MBS data – In 16m, we propose the MS may perform MBS location update and receive the MBS data in idle state • MBS location update is to notify the MBS controller to send the information of neighbor MBS zone to the MS for seamless MBS zone transition. • The MBS location update information is piggyback in the location update messages Current MBS zone MS Neighbor MBS zone Comparisons Legacy Inter-MBS zone transition MBS location update Network entry Yes No Handover Yes No MS re-enter idle state Yes No Location update No Yes Procedures MBS location update with MBS controller • MS monitors the MBS zone ID (such as that included in DCD in the Reference System) and initiates the MBS location update process (RNG-REQ message is used in the Reference System) if MBS zone transition is required • The MS receives the neighbor MBS zone information in MBS location update response message (RNG-RSP message is used in the Reference System) MS BS in current MBS zone MBS Location update (RNG-REQ) MBS controller of current MBS zone MBS controller of neighbor MBS zone MBS zone change request MBS zone information exchange Target MBS zone information acquisition MBS location update reply (RNG-RSP) Proposed Text in SDD • [Insert the following text in the 802.16m-08/003r4:] • 15.x MBS Location update For an MS that is receiving the feedback-free MBS data only, when the MS migrates to a BS in another MBS zone, the MS may perform the MBS location update process by piggybacking the MBS information in the location update messages. The MS acquires the neighbor MBS zone information for continuous reception of MBS data. The MS stays in idle state while performing MBS location update.
