Why are rules important?



Facilitate orderly conduct of business
Define the standards creation process
If not followed can lead to


Delays
Litigation
Where are the rules?


The “Rules” of IEEE 802 LMSC are called
Policies and Procedures (P&P)
The LMSC P&P can be found at

2) The Plenary

Briefly defines format for LMSC Plenary
sessions and meeting

NOTE:

A session is the entire period of time between the
Opening EC plenary meeting and the Closing EC
plenary meeting




A session may have substantial breaks during which no
meetings occur
EC meetings while outside these bounds are generally
considered part of the session
If a WG adjourns they END their session
A meeting is a single substantially contiguous period
of time without any large breaks


Yes health breaks are allowed!
If you recess your meeting ends but session continues
3) The Executive Committee

Function


Membership



Observers are allowed
Ask chair to speak
P&P Revisions


At meetings and between meetings
Meetings


Every even numbered year in March
Voting Rules


Who is a member and how they become a member
Reaffirmation


Charter groups, initial chairs, proc / tech advice on charter
Long and drawn out
Appeal and Complaint Process

You do have recourse!
4) LAN/MAN Standards Committee



Very loosely defines the LMSC
Very brief
Requires updating
5) LMSC Standards Development
Groups

Defines WG Rules



Defines TAG Rules



PROCEDURE FOR CONDITIONAL APPROVAL
TO FORWARD A DRAFT STANDARD



Forwarding draft to Sponsor ballot /

Typically run 2-3 revisions per plenary
