SERVE AS BAILIFFS FOR THE ADVANCED COMPETITION
First-year students have the opportunity to volunteer as bailiffs during the Advanced Moot Court Competition.
The competition gives first-year students the opportunity to observe second- and third-year students advocate
before the Freshman Moot Court Competition. The Advanced competition takes place during the fall semester.
WITNESSES AND TIMEKEEPERS FOR THE MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION
First-year students also have the opportunity to volunteer as witnesses and timekeepers for the Mock Trial
Competition. Timekeeping or serving as a witness during the Mock Trial Competition gives first-year students
the opportunity to observe second- and third-year students conduct a trial: giving opening statements, direct and
cross examining witnesses, arguing Rules of Evidence, and giving closing arguments. The Mock Trial
Competition takes place during the spring semester.
ATTEND TRAVEL TEAM DRESS REHEARSALS
Travel teams hold open dress rehearsals for students, faculty, and the public, where all can see the team perform
before they compete and show their support for the team. First-year students have an opportunity to see various
travel teams and, hopefully, find one that matches their interests.
FRESHMAN MOOT COURT COMPETITION
This annual competition is open only to first-year students. First-year students conduct legal research and craft
arguments. During competition rounds, competitors engage in persuasive dialogue before a panel of judges and
present an appellate-style argument before a mock court.
