Open Forum

-Greg Corning: Night Owls are on a new path that gets about 500 calls per week. We also have a new assistant director.

-Jared Stark: Good afternoon. On July 4 th , 2009 I founded a non-profit organization in the state of FL to provide civic education to the community and public as a whole. This will be free of charge. Governor Sherman and myself were talking about bringing the ACLU to Palm Beach county to have a “know your rights” workshop. In summary, we are aiming to o the event in the second week of October.

-Terry Mena: I bring you warm spirits and welcomes for your returns of 2009-2010 academic years. We want to really tell you that we are here to support you and if you need anything let us know. We are here to support all those ideas.

-Trevor Raborn: I have been working with Dr. Marahaj in educating students in patient care and treating cancer. He started a clinical trial in finding a potential cure. Representative Khonat got himself involved with Dr. Marahaj and has helped push the cause. This would attempt to cure solid tumors. Since we have been looking for donors of white blood cells…

*Motion to extend speakers time by Owens; seconded by Capata

…I will be around to work with you guys. This is an opportunity for our body and I love the work that we are involved in, from representation to school functions. Dr. Marahaj wants to have a binding agreement to acknowledge our participation if we choose to help. We have completed 4 patients and it takes a lot of students to get involved for matching patients. This would be Student Government’s first agreement of potential studies.

-Peter Montobalmo: I am part of Owl TV. We are here to help you promote your events and organization and airing in housing in Channel 8. We are completing our broadcast to allow us to reach all campuses. If you bring your flyers in, we will help you promote what you have.

UP Presentation

-Devon Desjarlais: Hello. I am the editor and chief of University Press. There was an error in the previous week’s paper that was supposedly telling our students to copy books. I have a very young staff and not only do we have a new staff they work

around the clock. When this incident happened we took action, and put up a correction stating we do not condone legal activities. My new staff did not complain and helped me out a great deal. I am here to formally apologize to you guys.

Raton campus and she is currently out of town. I haven’t had my address yet because of equipment errors and on

September 11 th , I will do it with my Governor’s Report in my House meeting.

We both thought that the House should support the bill for the first shirts. This is a great way for exposure and traditions.

House Forum

-Bastidas: I wanted to say that this Tuesday I had the privilege of going to Jupiter campus for the Sexual Orientation bill. It was impressive for me to see the Jupiter campus and to see what it is like. They run their meetings differently and for me it was an honor and we are moving on to the next campus, Davie.

-Questions

-Scalice: Do they use Robert Rules?

-Bastidas: Yes, but they currently have 4 members so it is not the same. When they vote, they say “approve” or

“disapprove”. The speaker has a toy gavel that makes a squishy sound.

-End Questions

-Gentry: Wanting to speak about 09-14. It is a good idea and the t-shirts went quick at the bonfire.

Legislative Report

-Pollock: You all got a copy of a memo that I wrote today. The only signature that it is awaiting is mine. What happened is the four of us got together with student affairs about adding the BSU name change would not be the most effective way of doing it. This is giving BSU the reformation within the inside and them the option on a choice. Update on Night Owl’s driving bill. We have figured a chapter route of doing things. We are going to add a voice mailbox on the conference line to allow us to hear complaints and not deal with new lines. I have received an email that states: “because of the record number of people, parking and transportation will allow vehicles to park in the grass on east side of Palm Beach Ave…. (etc).
