Rules for Laboratory Drawings Keep these directions in your notebook and refer to them often. All words are to be printed clearly. Use unlined, standard size paper (8.5” x 11”) Use proper endorsement in the upper left corner (Name, Date, Class, etc) Leave a one inch margin on all 4 sides Use pencil/colored pencil only Give each page a general title, centered Give each diagram a specific title, centered under the diagram Under the diagram title give the view (cross section, ventral view, etc) and in parentheses give the magnification if appropriate (100X or 50X, for example) Labels should all go on the right if at possible. When this is not possible, arrange them neatly elsewhere. First letters of all labels should be even vertically. Labels should appear at the end of a line, not ON the line Keep labeling lines parallel with the top of the page and use a ruler to ensure they are straight Parts of a diagram that occur more than once need only be labeled once No more than 2-3 diagrams per page Use only one side of the paper Neatness counts! Do not draw what you do not actually see!
