WELCOME TO SESSION 3 What we’ll be working on: examining a specific kind of reading – the graphic text examining the tips for multiple choice question which test writing skills READING On one section of the Literacy Test, you will be examining a specific kind of reading selection. You will then be required to answer multiple choice questions on the graphic selection. LET’S REVIEW SOME TIPS BEFORE YOU BEGIN… Prepare in advance by reading ALL the Multiple Choice questions Have a highlighter ready to mark important information as you read the text It is important to know that for this section of the test, you will be looking at visual material such as graphs, charts, diagrams or graphics. EXAMINE CAREFULLY CHECKING YOUR WORK After you have read the text and highlighted it, re-read the multiple choice questions and answer them carefully Once you have decided on your answer, go back to the text and, where possible, highlight or put a check mark where you got your answer Now for a different skill that will be required on the OSSLT. It involves testing your knowledge of writing conventions: • grammar • punctuation • sentence structure • paragraph structure The types of writing skills tested through multiple choice are: • your ability to combine information • your ability to use certain words correctly • your ability to identify the sentence in a paragraph that doesn’t belong • your knowledge of punctuation (using commas, semi-colons, colons, etc.) • your knowledge of grammar (using capitals, writing in full sentences, etc.) Review your knowledge of punctuation rules by matching the following words with their definition (record t he matching letter in the box provided beside each word) IN THIS SECTION YOU ARE REQUIRED TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT RESPONSES. Be sure to search as many online tips and helpful websites as you can to prepare for a variety of responses on the Literacy Test.
