What an excellent start to the new semester! With
every new Cadet feeling comfortable in
communicating with the upper classmen and
starting to get the hang of being an ROTC Cadet,
things are looking great for these up and comers.
Even the returning Cadets have shaken off the
rust and are operating, with one thing on their
mind, being the best they can be.

CADETS OF THE MONTH:
CDTS Ashley and Robyn Musgrave
Cadet Robyn Musgrave and Cadet Ashley Musgrave, both came from Johannesburg,
South Africa to serve in the United States Army. Cadet Robyn is pursuing a Nursing Degree
and Cadet Ashley is a Pre-Vet student at Tarleton State University. Ashley Musgrave also
recently graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School. These two sisters are currently
MSIII’s and on track for LDAC this upcoming summer.
Ashley Musgrave was asked about the percentage of women in the armed forces and
how she would encourage them. “I think that I would show them that the Army is a place
where you can learn leadership. Women can use leadership not only in the military, but also
in the civilian life. For example, if you want to have your own business you need leadership to
manage it. This is especially important for women, since there are not as many women in
CEO positions as there are men. I think in the military you get that kind of experience.”

AUGUST/ SEPTEMBER 2013 LABS AND INFO:
The first two labs started off great as both new and returning Cadets worked to complete the
Welcome Back, Drill and Ceremony, and Squad Movement. Their enthusiasm led them to excellent
attendance and .demonstrations of encouragement. For the MS III class, they got the opportunity to
learn how to present OPORDs and to perform STX lanes.
Even 2LT Lemay made an appearance. He received an award along with a Texan Battalion
coin. But in return, he gave encouraging words to all the MS classes.
During lab, TSU Cadets learned how to properly march together in a cohesive unit.

During our 11 September 2013 lab, Cadets were taught how to conduct Squad movement with
equipment. In this lab, the Cadets also learned how to perform proper hand signs and how to move
tactically through various terrain. In the end, all the groups were split and had an opportunity to try them
under heavy pressure.
Cadet Leugers demonstrating how to carry down the file hand motion.
BN XO Turnbow was explaining how to conduct a Squad attack and how to react to contact.
Finally, Cadets were given the chance to attack each other on split sides of a hill.

PMS
CORNER:
Musgrave will become an Army Nurse when
she
completes her training at TSU.
I have been extremely impressed with what you all
have accomplished this early in the semester. With a
group this size, this year’s group is destined for success. I
encourage you to excel in all that you do.
As a Battalion, we have some important upcoming
events to include our Ranger Competition, Joint Field
Training Exercise and will end the semester with a
Commissioning Ceremony.
While there is plenty going on, do not forget that
midterms are quickly coming up! You owe it to yourself to
stay focused on the tasks before you. While college life is
demanding, it is equally rewarding when you put forth an
effort and see results. Remember to study hard and strive
to do your best!
