Vera Sakharova Head of Department of State coordination for interethnic relations projects, cooperation with compatriots abroad and regions of the Russian Federation of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations. Ms. Sakharova has PhD in political sciences. She is the author of the «Multiculturalism and Immigrant Integration Policy in the Leading Western Countries» book. Under the frames of her professional activities, she develops and implements action programs in the field of harmonization of interethnic and interconfessional relations, prevention of xenophobic manifestations, and strengthening tolerance. Ms. Sakharova is Member of the St. Petersburg Government’s Consultative Council on the issues of implementation of the state national policy in St. Petersburg and Member of the Expert Council on the issues of strengthening tolerance in St. Petersburg. She takes part and represents St. Petersburg at the Steering Committee of the Coalition. In the course of her business trips, she studied international organizations and institutions’ practices in the area of implementation of tolerance policies and ethnic diversity (UNESCO, European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the Committee of the Regions of the European Union, European Coalition of Cities Against Racism); got introduced to the European State’ achievements in the field of developing intercultural interaction and supporting ethno-political stability (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain). Ms. Sakharova also is the Chief Editor of the www.spbtolerance.ru Internet portal.
