Question:2 By following MIPPA and other instruments the government has step forward to different actions including concrete policies. The government has approved a Policy for Older Persons in the country. It is approved in the cabinet and an obligation is created for other bodies to implement the policy for the welfare of Older persons. It is called the National Policy of Older Persons 2013. Another instrument is taken by the government is Maintenance of the Parents Act 2013. Certain measures could be taken for violation of the rule stated or in case of not maintaining the parents at their older age. A National Committee is formed for act plan and discuss the old age issue. This committee includes government higher officials, members of different GO NGOS. No mechanisms to monitor and assess the impact of MIPAA implementation is observed straightway. The Human rights issues are basically mentioned in the constitutions Article 15 D. Question :3 Yes, the specific necessities of the older persons are addressed in different way. The disability and old age issue, the vulnerable adults are taken under safety nets. The Nutrition issues are discussed and programs taken by National Nutrition Institutes. Many hospitals have opened Geriatric unit/corner in the country. 2.7 miillion older persons are being given Old Age Allowances. An amount of taka…… is given in the fiscal year. Question 4: Actually awareness about MIPPA is almost invisible to general people. Government initiatives like Old Age Allowance are much well known to them. In observance of Different days, some people come to know the implementation of MIPAA and other instruments through the media. Question 5: Equality and non-discrimination is ensured in the constitution of Bangladesh although it is not practiced in all the spheres of the society. Still some discrimination based on gender race is found but awareness level has been increasing to a large extent. Also the national law is a safeguard to the rights of the older persons. The BD government is very much older friendly now and they are positivity acting. The government is now paying 2700000 older persons the Old Age Allowance. MIPPA indirectly has an impact on it. Question 7: The best practice is observed in providing Old Age allowance by the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. The National Policy for Older Persons 2013 was adopted by following the principles of MIPAA. And thus, presently a total number of 2700000 older persons has come under this safety nets. There are other measures as well. They are officially declared as “Senior Citizen” and an ID card will be provided to them for various opportunities. The process of giving card is ongoing. Apart of the implementation of MIPAA the social norms and values of the country is to support, respect and care the older persons.
