The Hillside School Parking Lot: Please DO NOT park in any parking spaces which are labeled
for the Office and especially for the Principal. Even if you are going to stay ‘just a minute’, there are
designated Visitor parking spaces. This also applies to after school hours. Also, the yellow-lined space
next to the Principal’s parking space IS NOT a parking space. When there are no more Visitor spaces
available, you must park on the street. Thank you for your cooperation.
SPRING FUNDRAISER - Friday, MARCH 19TH, 6:00 p.m.
Hillside’s annual Spring Fundraiser is almost here and the committee is very excited for what will surely
be a fantastic night of prizes and fun!
50/50 PreSale Raffle -- We could all use some extra cash and the pot is growing. One
lucky winner will get half of the money and why shouldn’t it be you? Buy a raffle
ticket (or two, three, more) and take a chance at winning some cold, hard cash. This raffle will close March 18th and
the winner will be drawn on the following night. If you didn’t receive tickets or want more, please contact Carmela
Ullman at (973) 992-7144. (Cash or check payable to Hillside PTA) And if you're not buying any tickets or are
unable to sell them, please return them to Carmela.

You can purchase (or sell) as many tickets as you like. Friends, family, fellow employees and
neighbors are eligible to participate.
Whoever purchases a ticket KEEPS the portion with the “50/50” details on it. Return, with the
money, the portion that has the name, address and phone number. (Please write neatly so we
can contact the winner if they’re not present for the drawing.)
This is an off-premise raffle. These tickets will not be sold during our event on March 19th but the
winning ticket will be drawn that night. Due to strict auditing regulations, the winning ticket holder
MUST be able to provide their ticket stub in order to claim their prize.
The Big Event -- Friday, March 19th
We need help Friday morning with transporting baskets from 55 Wellington Road to Hanover Manor in
East Hanover. If you've got a minivan and want to help, please show up at 8:45 a.m. ready to go.
We'll also need volunteers to distribute programs and handle ticket sales. Michelle Allen is coordinating
the schedule and the more volunteers we get, the less we all have to do. Volunteers can arrive early to
preview the baskets and put tickets in before the crowd starts to swarm. You're going to be socializing
anyway so why not help the PTA -- it's a lot of fun. Contact Michelle07039@aol.com.

MEDIA VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!!
Ms. Flannery, Mrs. Ingoglia, Mrs. Levine, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. VanDusen and Mrs.
Volk's classes are especially in need of media volunteers!! Please consider
volunteering once or twice a month to help our children check out and return their books in
a timely fashion. Children always love to see their parent during the school day!! If

HILLSIDE SPRING APPAREL SALE: SHOW YOUR SCHOOL SPIRIT IN STYLE – Orders
due April 5
Once again, we have recruited the quality craftsmanship of Wolfhead Athletic, Inc. to create our amazing
2010 spring collection of Hillside School Apparel. This year, we are offering very affordable selections,
such as the MUST HAVE $9 Hillside Short Sleeve T-Shirts, and Hillside Soffe Shorts for only $10 each –
try to beat those prices!!
All of this season’s items will flaunt our new Hillside School logo in a cool “distressed” font…look out
Hollister and Abercrombie!!
In preparation for our June Field Day, you’ll want to get your Hillside student geared up with our brandnew Hillside Baseball Caps to keep the sun out of their eyes and their focus on the fun. And don’t forget,
for all those cool beach nights this summer, your kids will stay warm wearing their new Hillside Full-Zip

Hoodies, Pullover Sweatshirts, and cozy Flannel PJ’s. All items are available in youth and adult sizes so
moms and dads (maybe even grandma?) can look as awesome as their kids.
Apparel forms are posted on the PTA website, or click here. ALL ORDERS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN
MONDAY, APRIL 5th - right after vacation. That means you have less than four weeks to get those orders
in and look “HILLSIDE HOT” this spring and summer. Don’t delay!

Community garage/bake sale- Saturday, April 17
A community garage/bake sale, organized by over 40 Hillside families, will take place on
Saturday, April 17th from 9-1 on Salem Place. All proceeds will benefit the Community Soup
Kitchen and Outreach Center. We would like to open this event up to any families interested in
participating, as it is a wonderful opportunity for kids and their families to work together on a
community service project. The children do almost everything while enjoying themselves at the
same time. Families can donate items to sell, bring items to sell and spend the day or just come
by and shop. Last year over 50 families participated and over $2000.00 was raised! Salem Place
will be closed for the day making it safe for everyone.
Any unsold items will be donated back to Hillside School PTA and used for their clothing/toy

Spring After School Enrichment-Coming Soon
Registration will begin in mid March for Spring ASE (After School Enrichment-formally known as Hobby
Hour) classes!!! Classes will run for four weeks beginning April 21st and April 22nd.

BOOK SWAP IN APRIL
We'll be collecting gently used children's books, K-5th grade. The collection will begin April 5,
for one week. The following week your child can pick one book from the collection during their
scheduled Library time. If you donate one book or twenty, your child will choose one book. The
books can be fiction, non-fiction, picture or chapter books. No board books or adult books. Left
over books will be donated to a resource center in Newark, part of the Newark Library. If you
have any questions, or lots of books (too many to send into school with your child) then email

Family Photo Day- Sunday April 18
F-16 Company will once again offer Family Portraits to Hillside School. The photo session will be

5TH GRADE ~ “THRU THE YEARS” DVD
Lynda Pauwels is making a "Thru the Years" DVD for the 5th grade and needs your assistance.
She is looking for the following:

Miscellaneous photos from your child's years at Hillside. Please scan those photos and
email them to Lynda at lzarillo@aol.com. If you need to give the physical photo to Lynda,
please label with the names and grade. Photos will not be returned.

In an effort to save money, volunteers are needed to burn DVDs from their home or office.
