BREAKFAST TO GO PROGRAM …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Hillside Kids Have H.E.A.R.T. Helpful ▪. Empathetic ▪ Accepting ▪. Respectful ▪ Trustworthy Please join the 5th Grade Social Studies classes in their effort to support the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center’s goal of providing take-out breakfast meals for their guests. How can you help? Donate the healthy and nutritious breakfast products listed below. These items will be packaged for the guests to take home to enjoy for breakfast, or to give to their children for breakfast before school. Kindergarten – Breakfast/granola bars First Grade – Breakfast/granola bars Second Grade – Fruit Cups Third Grade, 4-Damante, and 4-Ingoglia – Shelf-stable 2% milk (Hershey, Borden, Horizon) Note: These are the small boxes of milk, usually sold in the juice aisle in packs of 6 or 8. Fifth Grade and 4- Marshall – Small boxes of cereal Please place the donated items in the box in your classroom. Items will be collected until Thursday, October 8 Thank you for your generosity! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SIMPLY GOURMET LUNCHES (S.G.L.): Drinks -- we removed the option to add a drink to the S.G.L. because they do not come packaged inside the box lunch, and it complicated distribution of the lunches. Drinks are sold a la carte every day at the snack table. We have chocolate milk, plain milk and bottled water for 50 cents each. Changes -- you can make changes/adjustments to your child's lunch order as long as it falls outside the 72 hour lock-out period. You are charged $1 for every financial transaction. If you add or delete any items from your original order and are due either a credit or need to pay more, you will be charged the $1 fee. Dessert -- You have the option to add dessert to your child's lunch (for an additional fee) and the default is set to add it to your order. If you don't want dessert for your child, you must manually select "no dessert". Desserts are "chef's choice" for the day and you do not have the option to choose what your child receives. For a list of desserts that are typically served, log on to the www.simplygourmetlunches.com and look under the "Food/Allergy Information” tab. 2-part lunch (no sides) -- Hillside lunches are a 2 part lunch consisting of an entree and fresh produce side. 75% of the time the produce will be a fruit and the other times it will be a vegetable. All produce is cut or sliced for easy eating and the options are kid friendly, (meaning they won't get brussel sprouts in their lunch). Portion -- All lunches are packaged equally and conform to the state standards for nutritional content or portion size. You may order an extra entree for $1.50 more. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Hillside Kids Have H.E.A.R.T. Helpful ▪. Empathetic ▪ Accepting ▪. Respectful ▪ Trustworthy Waste -- Every day kids throw out perfectly good and uneaten food whether it was sent from home or pre-ordered. Even unopened drinks get thrown in the trash. Talk with your kids about what they like or don't like for lunch. Work together to ensure they get a nutritional lunch that they'll enjoy eating. Kudos -- A round of applause is due to our kids for their recycling efforts. They've done a great job of stacking their empty lunch containers and putting empty drink bottles in the recycling can. Comments -- The only way we can improve the lunch program is to get feedback, and S.G.L. wants to hear from you too. If you have ideas or suggestions, please email any of the executive board members or contact S.G.L. directly. HILLSIDE CARNIVAL The Hillside Carnival and Family Picnic will be held this Friday, October 2nd from 4-7pm. The cost per wristband is $13. Wristbands provide your children an all access pass to unlimited games and rides. Soda or water is $1, chips are $.50, and popcorn is free. Entertainment will be provided by Maurice’s Party Animals. If you didn't order pizza, remember to bring a picnic dinner to share with your family. Many parents bring beach chairs and/or blankets to sit on with their families. There will also be a bake sale during the carnival instead of immediately after school. Please contact Lauren Stone at lhstone1@aol.com if you'd like to contribute something to the bake sale. HILLSIDE SCHOOL ON FACEBOOK We are proud to announce that Hillside School now has a Facebook group page called “Hillside Elementary School” to help connect Hillside families in order to share information, ideas, friendship and fun. This forum can be used to get school related advice from other parents, get feedback on current or future school activities/programs, announce upcoming school related events, help organize volunteers, aid in making play dates, or just to connect with your friends (or make new ones!). Hillside Moms, Dads, and staff are welcome and encouraged to join. For more info on becoming a group member, please contact Mindy Pritikin at mtpritikin@msn.com. CLIP BOX TOPS AND EARN CASH FOR OUR SCHOOL Collecting Box Tops is a great way for the PTA to earn money and it doesn't cost you a thing. Last year we received over $900 for all of the Box Tops that were turned in, and it all goes back to benefit our Hillside students. Keep collecting those Box Tops as it will soon be time for the Box Tops competition. Click here for a list of products which have Box Tops. For more information about Box Tops, click here. MEDIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED There is a shortage of media volunteers for Mrs. Levine, Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Volk. Please consider volunteering once or twice a month to help our children check out and return their books in a timely fashion.
