Welcome back to the 2009-2010 school year at Hillside…home of the Huskies! We hope you had a great
summer and are looking forward to the school year ahead. We know time is valuable and so is the
environment so here’s a list of “Don’t Miss” items you’ll want to pay attention to:
Going Green – The district and PTA are working hard to be environmentally friendly and have
eliminated much of the paper communication that used to go home in the children’s backpacks. It’s a
tough transition and a lot depends on you to seek out information.
STARS v. LPS – STARS contains your contact information, including dismissal procedures and
emergency notification information. LPS provides automatic email notification of what's going on in the
school including the PTA's weekly newsletter “Wednesday Weekly Bulletin” (commonly called the
“WWB”). “STARS” and “Subscribe to LPS News” are links available on the home page of
www.livingston.org or www.livingston.org/hillside If you no longer have your User ID and Password,
contact the BOE at (973) 535-8000 or registrar@livingston.org.
Connect – The website for Livingston Public Schools is www.livingston.org. The web address for
Hillside is www.livingston.org/hillside and the PTA’s website can be accessed from here by clicking on
the PTA link located in the green box on the left.
Curriculum – Did you know the district website provides information about the curriculum for
elementary, middle and high school students? Go to www.livingston.org. Under District Department on
the top click “Curriculum and Highlights,” then click on Content Area, then the School Level
(elementary, middle, high).
Buzz Book – This is our private, school phone directory. More details are on the sheet provided in this
Fact Pack and online.
Fundraising – Our biggest event for the year is the Spring Fundraiser to be held March 19, 2010 at
Hanover Manor. We’re taking a different approach to our other, smaller fundraisers and hope you’ll
consider this year’s “Just Write A Check” campaign. (enclosed and available online)
Lunch – You should have already received information about this year’s lunch program being provided
by Simply Gourmet Lunches via eblast in August. If not, then go online to the PTA website for details.
Family Survival Guide – New to Hillside? This publication was developed by Hillside parents as a
handy reference to answer the many questions you might have about our school. (available online)
Committees/Class Parents – Want to get involved or need more information? Detailed information is
available online.
Other Stuff – There’s so much more to tell you but we didn’t want to use another sheet of paper. Log on
to the PTA website to keep up with what is going on at Hillside and the PTA. (The first PTA meeting of
the year is Tuesday, September 15, 7:30 p.m. in the Upper Gym.)
