Job Purpose
To make a (leading) contribution to the project: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, working with
Prof/DR. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Specifically, the job requires expert knowledge in the area of
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the
formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help to
successfully deliver this project as opportunities allow.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal /
Co Investigator: (if project specifications require PI / CoI (if project specifications require PI
/ CoI terminology to change then amend as appropriate):
1. Plan and conduct assigned research individually and / or jointly in accordance with the
project deliverables and project / School of XXXXXX and College of Arts research strategy.
2. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining
records and databases, drafting progress reports and papers as appropriate.
3. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of the University of
Glasgow / College of Arts and School of xxxxxxx , including contributing to publications of
the highest quality in high profile / high quality refereed journals.
4. Enhancing the impact of individual and joint research in terms of economic/societal
benefit, gathering indicators of esteem and identifying opportunities identifying opportunities
for and engaging in knowledge exchange.
5. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal
and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
6. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the
development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support
future research.
7. Collaborate and establish partnerships with colleagues and participate in team/group
meetings/seminars/workshops across the project and in the
broader/School/College/University and wider national and international community (e.g
Academic and Business partners).
8. Where appropriate contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of
undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project
team to ensure their effective development.
9. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School,
including Budgets/Expenditure (delete budgetary element if not appropriate)
10. Where appropriate make some contribution to Teaching activities and associated admin
as assigned by the Head of School and in consultation with Principal Investigator.
11. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
12. Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and
transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
13. Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head of School following discussion with
PI.

14. Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research objectives
individually and / or jointly with the project team and associated collaborators in accordance
with the project deliverables and School of XXXXXX and College of Arts research strategy
15. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of the University of
Glasgow / College of Arts and School of XXXXX, including establishing and sustaining a
track record of independent and joint publications (where appropriate) of the highest quality
in high profile/quality refereed journals
16. Enhancing the impact of individual and joint research in terms of economic/societal
benefit, gathering indicators of esteem and identifying opportunities for and engaging in
knowledge exchange.
17. Take a leading role in the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the
development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support
future research.
18. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations/partnerships with
colleagues across the project and in the broader School / College / University and wider
national and international community (e.g. academic and business partners).

tasks which the staff member may be reasonably expected to perform.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 A first degree or PG Masters in a relevant subject
A2 Excellent track record of PG research
A2 Specialist and practical knowledge of xxxxxxxxx
A3 A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the wider subject area and subject
specialism (this may vary slightly depending on the specific nature of the project)
A4 Knowledge of project specific data sources and archival material
A5 Knowledge of specialist IT software as appropriate (optional depending on project)

E1 5 years relevant research experience including 1-2 years relevant postdoctoral research
experience in a related field
F2 An emerging national or international reputation
E3 Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner
E4 A track record of presentation and publication of research results in high quality
journals/conferences
E5 Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities
E6 Ability to demonstrate a degree of independence sufficient to be able to take responsibility
for specified project objectives
