If you have extenuating circumstances, we can work together to find an alternate time during that week that works for both of us. More information about scheduling your conference will be coming as we get closer to

What did we learn last week?

Math: We began our next chapter, Length and Measurement, last week. The kids have a lot of prior knowledge about this topic and we are cruising right along! I also introduced our fluency practice packets. Kids will work for 5 minutes a day on their math facts (most days) to help them increase their fact fluency. We also learned how to use our newest math centers.

Word Study: Our Word Study focused on looking at “oa” and “oi” spelling patterns in combination with “magic e” words with a “long o” sound. We did several hands-on activities, found these spelling patterns in our

Morning Messages as well as our shared reading, and began applying our new knowledge to our reading and writing. Students began working with new personalized sorts.

Reader’s Workshop: We have been having a lot of fun learning how to get to know characters in books! We learned to use the pictures and words together to understand what our characters are thinking and feeling.

The kids practiced retelling well with their reading partners and learned that if they can’t retell they should go back and reread while playing closer attention to the text.

Writer’s Workshop: Our nonfiction writing is growing in leaps and bounds! The kids are now writing chapter books, using a table of contents to organize their writing, and telling many facts in each chapter. We looked at multiple ways to add details to our writing including using comparisons and examples.

Social Studies/Science: SASSMM came to visit us last Monday to help the kids understand the difference between good touches and bad touches. They did a great age-appropriate puppet show and followed up by having the kids draw and write about an adult they feel they can talk to. We continued our study of winter by reading and studying poems and books on the topic.

We love Elephant and Piggie books!
