Institutional Course Intended Outcomes Learning Outcomes (1) Students will be able to create a balanced 3D form that utilizes a specific 5 element of art, “Line”. 5 5 (2)Students will be able to create relief forms using a specific element of art, 3D shapes, while employing a principle of design, “Balance”. Date: 19 June 15 Means of Assessment and Criteria for Success Summary of Data Collected Use of Results Each student will create a figurative wire sculpture. Criteria: 80% of students will produce a satisfactory project based upon a rubric. Spring 15 One section 25 students 25 projects A – C range, 100% Each student will create wood block compositions that exhibit symmetrical & asymmetrical balance. Criteria: 80% of students will produce a satisfactory project based upon a rubric. Spring 15 One section 25 students 25 completed, 100% A – C range Calder DVD works well here. Working from contour drawings really works well. Students' task is clear & it reinforces ideas from drawing classes. Those who didn't have drawing class I did lots of one on one with. Drawing can be intimidating for these beginners. Asymmetrical composition remains the most unfamiliar to beginners. Reviewing symmetry/assymmetry for all students helped. 5 (3) Students will develop skills in casting realistic relief forms. Each student will design and create a Figurative sculpture/mask cast from their own face. Criteria: 80% of students will produce a satisfactory project based upon a rubric. Spring 15 One section 25 students 25 projects, 95% A – C range Artist DVDs enrich this project; showed Louise Bourgeois and others. Adding sculptural elements to these casts makes for better projects. For the students, this is a matter of obtaining/collecting objects to use for this or casting more figurative elements to use. This year student and I scavenged the trimmed trees on campus – the tree trimmers on campus obliged! Idea: Provide some scrap materials on hand for this and/or require that more casts be made that could be incorporated into the projects. All of this helped, especially providing bases, epoxy & drill for joining materials together. Can college provide drill, dremel tool, glue gun??? 5 5 5 1 1 (4) Students will be able to recognize the elements of art, media used, and the content/meaning in a variety of three dimensional forms. Students will participate in a trip to a museum/gallery and complete a report. Criteria: 80% of the students will score C or greater on the quiz. Spring 15 One section 24 students 20 completed, A – C range 83% Required more analysis this time as well as description of chosen art work. Car pooled to the Getty Museum. Can’t lose with this! Handed out this assignment much earlier so the success rate increased. Students would really benefit from a bus trip to the Getty Museum or to the L.A. County Museum of Art. Can the college afford the students this experience?
