Blass, Side by Side Activity Workbook 1, Pearson Grammar Work 1 Longman Photo Dictionary Longman Basic Dictionary loose leaf paper and folder to keep your assignments No. 2 pencils for tests, ink pens for assignments Course Objectives/Competencies produce simple sentences, including commands identify correct sentence patterns a) compound sentences with “and”, “but”) b) information questions (e.g. who, what, when, where) c) Yes/No questions d) short answers use the following grammatical forms: a. Nouns as subjects b. Proper nouns c. Regular plural nouns d. Subject pronouns e. Demonstrative pronouns f. Possessive adjectives g. Noun phrases that include adjectives h. Adjectives as attributes i. Basic prepositional phrases of time (in/at/on), place, and direction j. Simple verb phrases as specified below use affirmative and negative verb forms (high frequency verbs only): a. Simple Present (inc. “be”, “have”, and “there is/are”) b. Present Progressive c. Simple Past (also “be” and “there was/were”) d. Can/could (ability) EAP 0160 MMont Page 1of 3 Course work and Grades There is a lot of material to learn in this course. Students need to study at home every day and do all the homework. It is impossible to do well in this course without a lot of individual study time. If you do not understand a lesson, come to my office immediately, and I will help you. The final grade in the course will be A (100-90), B (89-80), C (79-70), D (69-60), F (59 or below): Attendance and class participation 10% Homework assignments 10% Tests and Final Examination 80% Note: Make up quizzes/tests will not be given. The final examination cannot be taken early. Attendance and Punctuality Come to class on time and attend classes regularly. If you are later or absent, your grade goes down. If you are absent for 3 consecutive lessons, you will be dropped from the class. More than 4 absences in a MWF class and 3 absences in a TR class can result in a drop or a failing grade. If you are not in class during attendance check, you will be marked absent. You must see me after the class so that I mark you late. In the final grade, 2 late arrivals will count as 1 absence. But you will be marked absent if you arrive 20 minutes late. Cell phones Turn off your cell phones during the lesson. Phones and beepers may not ring nor be answered during the lesson.
