Passage 1E: Giant Panda
The giant panda in various mountain ranges in Central china. The ears, eyes, muzzle
shoulders, and legs of the giant panda are black. the rest of the large body is white.
The giant
panda has a thick, wooly coat that keeps warm in the forests. males can weigh up to 250 pounds.
Females usually weigh les than 220 pounds.
Giant pandas eat mostly bamboo They have strong jaw muscles that help to crush
the touf bamboo. pandas usually eat while sitting upright. This allows them to use there front
paws to grab the bamboo stems. They must around 20 to 40 pounds of bamboo every day to get
all the nutrients they need. Pandas also get most of their water from the bamboo, which has a lot
of water in it.They get the rest of their water from rivers and streams? The spends most of its
day sleeping, seeking food, and eating. It does mot hibernate like other bears.
The giant pandas offspring is called a cub. The panda can only give proper attention to one cub.
This means that if two are born, only one will survive. giant pandas can produce a cub only
every other year, which is one reason they listed as endangered. Mamy efforts are going on
around the world to save this wonderful species
